Wanting Sound System Upgrade - Suggestions?

Postby Stewie1995 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 10:25 am

Hey Guys!

I am wanting to upgrade my 2007 MY08 heritage liberty's sound system cause lets face it, its not the greatest thing in the world.
I am wanting to do sub, amp, 6x6 speakers (as i think thats stock anyway), tweakers and all necessary cableing and converters etc. I also need to get a Aux kit to wire up from Subaru (or if anybody knows any other cheaper options?)

Im waiting till just after July (TAX TIME!$!$!$!$) so im wanting to spend around $1000.
Im undecided as to what i do with the rear speakers, disconnect them? put new ones in? leave them?

Does anybody have:
a) suggestions about what the setup should be and what will sound good for my budget
b) any specific product suggestions (with prices) taking in note my budget

Help would be great guys as i want it to sound quality rather than like a bass nut.
THANKS GUYS!

my opinion is to go with Alpine! you cant go wrong they are quality and reliable, little on the pricey side but well worth it. A Type S system would be be perfect for what you need. you could look at getting type S sub, Type S splits for the front, type S 6" for the back doors with either an Xpower 5ch or PDX 5 channel. the PDX 5 channel is better than the Xpower it will give it more power but more expensive. that would be around the $1000 mark. Go to your local Jb Hi Fi or autobarn that sell Alpine and have a look through the Alpine catalouge, they do full sound system at varying prices

this is my opinion.
will you be installing it yourself?
Are you going to keep the stock headunit?

It's been covered a few times, but, here's my suggestions for a budget of around $1000.

Source Unit: Clarion CZ202A / Crystal EDB410BT / Eclipse CD5030 / Pioneer DEH-2450UB / Sony CDXGT290
Front Speakers: Crescendo Opus 1 / DLS B6A / Eclipse SE6500 / Focal IS165 / Hertz ESK165 / Morel Maximo 6 / Orion CO625 / Polk DB6501 / Rainbow Sound Line SAC 265 25
Amplifier: ARC XDi804 / Audison SR2 / DLS CA22 / Eclipse XA4200 / Focal FPP2100 / Hertz HE2 / Orion CO300.2
Cable: Stinger
Deadening: Dynamat SuperLite / FhrxPaint / Stinger

Borrowed from FHRX Studios website.

Headunit: In this range are all much of a muchness. However, my personal favourite has to be the Eclipse.
Front Speakers: Crescendo Opus 1 or Morel Maximo
Amp: Arc XDi804
Cable: Crock... Go to Jaycar
Deadening: any or all.

It provides a platform to build from and will yield better results than any Alpine/Pioneer/Sony package etc
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

Read what Phil posted and STAY AWAY from JB hifi & Autobarn.

Definitely don't just disconnect them, my current car doesn't have back speaker (never came with them, old car). And I have a new head unit, speakers in front doors, and sub and amp. Not having rear speakers really takes away from the sound. Don't feel surround but the music, and not a wholesome sound if that makes sense. Ahha.

Rear speakers are a waste of money.

A lot of people (including myself) leave them disconnected

Rear speakers are mainly for the passengers in the rear.

When you go to a concert, the stage is in front of you, and thats where the music is coming from. By changing the speakers in the rear, all you are doing is dragging that stage towards the rear, and the music will start to sound less than great.
