So i've spent heaps replacing tires getting used to this All wheel drive thing, don't get me wrong, i'm LOVING IT!

But unfortunately Aussie day Double Demerits took my license and then a random breath test (I was sober I don't drink much at all) and a very untimely front main seal giving way led to alot of smoke, which caused the cops to go about saying my brakes were screwed (just to get the car off the road) when all the fines and fees lined up I basically have been without a cent and in alot more debt.

I still got the wagon, i'm gonna try and keep it if I can it's a wonderful car and I had such a good vision for it's future.

So at the moment it's in a million pieces with a List a mile long of stuff to replace or enhance, the Registration was supposed to last until early May which gave me time to fix what the police said was wrong (tear in the seat was one of the things can you believe?) and then the pits would tell me what else they wanted done all in all the registration stays in tact and I spend less on pit fees...

...well I got a letter saying the plates must be handed in on Monday, so that screws that idea then.

With all that in mind I have spoken with the fines enforcement registry and it seems that I will be losing my license for 3 months and the car will lose it's until it is presented for a full inspection and passes, paying off the fines (about $1200) has left me kinda hungry, buying what I need to basically do a 300,000k service and fix every other minor little detail wrong with it for a full inspection means it's gonna be a while!

This is all very disheartening, the fact the camera lied about my speed, the fact that the signs on the road said double demerits was over but then receiving a 14 point fine (the most you get is 12 so losing 14 is impossible) and the yellow defect sticker being for a broken master cylinder which isn't broken, it's all a bit much and having to buy 9 odd tires in the last few months not all cause of skids lol, belts just gave way and made lumps etc.

But I will not give up, how could I be a car enthusiast if I didn't do the hard yards behind the scenes right? it's not all about money and posing ;)

Either way, all I want is a relatively clean Gen2 wagon for cruising and a little bit of off-road work, I want to become a more involved club member in real life, I really miss packed car parks with modded cars and going on cruises with like minded people, it shouldn't be unobtainable and so I'm not gonna sell her, just slowly, empty stomach no night life hot days greasy hands sore everything my way back to suby wagon goodness ;)

:D :D :D :D :D I got the engine now, it's a EJ25 DOHC from a Gen2 Bilstein Edition, so psyched to get it in, starting on it tonight gonna degrease it and paint it and throw on some service items, basically get it sweet before i pull out the old EJ22 from the wagon gonna be sweet!!! 8) 8) 8)

Image

Got New oil and filter, fuel filter, degreaser, engine enamel, normal paint, fuel injector cleaner, oil flush, spark plugs, new head light, driving light, park light, interior and binnacle globes and a couple of rolls of electrical tape, only thing i'm short is some coolant, air filter, new belts and a relay, cause well i ran outta cash, the spark plugs were ridiculously expensive and i couldn't get the cheapest ones (about $15 each!?) cause they were outta stock so i ended up paying for the $25 each ones but got em for about $17 with my trade card so not too bad, but at least i know i won't be having to change them in a few k's when the engines in the car instead of now whilst it's out and easy to get to, still i'm used to paying $20 a set or even less with those $4 each ones, i guess the liberty is a little more deserving though

Then started on preparing the new engine

And found that the rear air-conditioner mount had broken from the engine block

Not quite sure what I'm going to do about it, thinking either a longer bolt and some sort of bonding? I don't remember the name but it's a grey silvery paste that I've seen used on blocks heads and sumps etc.

I also had some trouble sourcing rocker cover gaskets, I wanted to make sure no leaks once it's in it seems there's a few types for a ej25, I got some pictures and was hoping someone on here had a clue, my EJ25 is out of a 98 gen2 bilstein...

I also managed to split an intake manifold gasket but found replacements quite easily,

only problems left to tackle is putting my air-conditioning compressor onto the new block (to save opening the system) and using my power steering pump on the new engine as well as it didn't come with one

Take your old rocker cover gaskets into the store and ask then to match? Subaru dohc gasket. Shouldn't be too hard to match

Sounds like they're trying to sell you your left nut as well as the gaskets.

Looks like I'll need the bottom set so I'll go about ordering those, hoping for a reply from my mate who's house the lib's at currently in pieces to see if he's free this arvo/evening so I can get the last 2 bell-housing bolts and then the engine mounts off of the old EJ22 and continue assembling the EJ25

Hey AJ!

Just came across your build thread, keep up the great work - really respect those of you who do DIY so well (I'm hopeless). Hope to see you at a cruise one day :)

Cheers guys, As for the DIY, I part time at a workshop in the outback in a mining town called Wiluna, I used to service the rodeo's for Magellan mines at Jim's mechanical, also my dad used to build race engines for Geoff Kendrick's sprint cars and all that, he was a head specialist doing porting and all that, also being poor helps, I mean if you can't afford the millions per hour in labour you learn to make your cars work by yourself if you gotta get to work or school and can't afford someone else to fix it haha,

I had some trouble the 2.5L flex plate didn't match the 2.2L torque converter so i had to swap em, but my single hex socket cracked and rounded the bolts and my mate only had double hex ones which just made it worse, he says he's got a tool to help get the rest of em off so should be having a whack at that on Tuesday or Wednesday, shame really had the engine in and all bolted up too, had to use the 2.2 exhaust manifold and power steering pump, also keeping the 2.2 air-con pump so I don't have to open the system and re-gas, should be all together within a week or two, then gotta save up for seat belt mirror and seat covers and then pit fees, looking sweet guys, shame I missed that cruise :S
