Joining the dump pipe club!

Postby viriix » Wed May 14, 2008 1:46 pm

Rather than hijacking someone elses thread I guess i'd post a new clean topic for comparison.

I don't have any pretty pictures and I only have a night video.. which I'll re-do later on during the day sometime and fix up..

Had the DP installed yesterday and it's pretty much 90% smoothed out all my problems from the broken cat, after resetting the ECU, it seems to still have some slight issues..

All I can say is that I should've done this heaps earlier!!! You can hear the turbo spool up with a pleasant whine and the car is great! I don't see a reason why I even need a sprintbooster with it (as I've taken it out when troubleshooting) and the HKS SSQV just whistles off nicely as well!

It's still early days but I think for my Liberty I might need a tune to fix her up.. but I'm pretty happy with the upgrade!

It's a lot louder than I had anticipated.. but.. here it is.. I'll have better videos later.. and hopefully one while I'm in-car driving around!

Congrats Adrian! Glad to see you took care of your cat crack.

Hey! Screw you! Don't be making fun of my post! Hahaha.

Had the DP installed yesterday

Did you get a factory replacement or did you get an aftermarket upgrade? Because you never mention what brand you got.

It's not from Predo, the street vendor who sells dump pipes from his little donkey driven cart is it? :derisive:

It's a lot louder than I had anticipated.

Is it paired with the Fujisubo's? Where do think most of the increased noise is coming from? The back or the mid section?

Nice clip! Leo showed me it last night! Was it Phat DP?

What are these issues that you are mentioning?

I havent had a tune and has been running perfectly well for nearly 1 yr.

i think the noise comes from the fuji mufflers.

Haha. If I'm not mistaken, I think he said "GT nice ...", not GT 9's.

I called up Subaru out of curiousity but already knew what the answer would be from them, "oh.. different exhaust system.. hmmm".

I went to the dark side to MRT to get my dump pipe installed . They are 5 mins drive my my place and the current state of the liberty with the broken cat wasn't driveable getting worse each day and I needed it ASAP.

Arith wrote:Is it paired with the Fujisubo's? Where do think most of the increased noise is coming from? The back or the mid section?

Yes the DP connects down right into my Fujitsubo's exhaust to the Fuji cat as well. I think the noise is most noticeable from the back, but it's also in the mid section, and you can hear it screaming when up in the revs lol..

When turning on the car, you instantly notice it's a deeper tone and standing at the back of the car you can hear her burbling quietly, not much cabin noise either which is nice if you're cruising around!

MY07GT wrote:What are these issues that you are mentioning?

Most times she's driving fine without problems, and at the odd time the rev feels lagged and then it kicks in and she's off again, a bit of jerkiness you could say. Though, my car did have a broken cat inside so that might've effected the readings a bit.. I'll be seeing how it goes the next few days as it might smooth out.

I'm still happy in the end with a bit of a grin on my face :) and.. I think i'm breaking a few emission standards in the carpark... lol

Adrian, that jerkiness is the hesitation/stutter problem that the 2.5lt's experience. It would have been evident when your car was stock.

You will experience this mostly in 2nd and 3rd gears thru the rev range of 2000-3000 if you accelerate then let it go then step on it again. There will be a slight hesitation.

A tune should eliminate this. I found though with a EVC and sprint booster, it has minimised this problem to some degree and helped with acceleration. But a tune should completely remove this.

Oh! I didn't even know MRT had their own dump pipe for the MY07!

Spot on Phil!

I don't think it's become as evident in my mind till the problems crept up with the broken CAT and now with the dump pipe.

You're right that if you let it go.. then it's good, and if you're already above the 3000 it feels pretty fine.

I'll have to adjust my driving style I think.. maybe put back in the sprintbooster to see the changes!

Thanks for the tips :]

I enquired a few times about AVO DP's but never felt convinced 100% they knew what I wanted, and their dealers didn't call me back for like weeks.

MRT was just down the road.. :)

Weird. I found when I was running 1.0 bar (14.5 psi) & 1.1 bar (15.9 psi) of boost, I would also get this problem. But since moving to 1.2 bar (17.4 psi) of boost, the problem pretty much diminished so that I hardly notice it any more.

I believe Franky & Dave mentioned in past posts the factory boost was 13.5 psi (0.93 bar).
