Coilover longevity

I've been told that coilovers do not last that long before requiring rebuilding and that a quality set of shocks such as Bilsteins etc will last a lot longer.

Is this true? And if is is, does this hold even for the more expensive coilovers like Ohlins and Racecomps?

For street coilovers generally around 50K between services from what I've read.
Race coilovers generally less or hours even
If you are considering a purchase its worth checking out the options for servicing/rebuilds/core replacement with the distributor or a suspension specialist.

also depends on varying factors like, what kind of roads you drive on, how often you drive etc. most can be rebuilt anyway.
if your considering buying, to me theyre only worth buying if your going to track your car. otherwise just go spring/shocks combo

Not looking at tracking. Having said that one day I might want to get into it.

Just want best balance between handling, ride, and ride height.

And I'm sick of experimenting with different spring and shock combinations where none of them provide the results I want.

You can always give it a go. I wouldn't worry about the longevity of the coils. They'll last longer than most own the car.

Going through their setup process, calibrating max droop & compression especially, is something I'd like to try next time I do some more susp upgrades.

At this stage I am looking at the Racecomps with the Ohlins a second. And I will ask about rebuilding and servicing etc from the distributor/seller before I make any decisions.
