Clearing the CEL

Postby kiwigene » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:05 pm

CEL is on after doing a couple of minor things today. I think it just needs clearing. How do I do that?

I was removing the resonator box and changing some bulbs. So at some point the AFM was disconnected and also the battery. I think I must have had the AFM disconnected when I disconnected and then reconnected the battery. Although I never turned the engine over with the AFM disconnected, I did put the ignition into the on position. Do you think this would cause a CEL if the AFM wasn't connected?

I actually needed to drive the car, and so have done maybe 80 k's with CEL on. Drove conservatively, of course! Noticed no ill affects and fuel economy Normal. So that's why I think I just need to clear the CEL.

Any advice welcome.

+1 Restart the car 7 times. (is it 5 or 7? not including the times you have restarted it already)

if it still persists reseat the AFM plug.

Ok, that seemed to work. Or at least when I went to start the car this morning there was no CEL.

It probably was the 5th time I'd restarted the car. Thx for the replies.
