I know there is debate about which racing game is the best etc. To be honest, I don't really care and this thread isn't for you Forza fan boys to tell me how much better it is. Gran Turismo (the original) was the first game I ever owned on Playstation, in the Christmas of 1998 when my dad first bought me and my brother the Playstation and a few games.
My dad wasn't 100% cluey on how the whole thing worked and didn't realise a memory card was needed to save the game, and neither did myself or my brother, so every day would be a painstaking trip through the B licence and A licence so that we would be able to race in more than the Sunday Cup (which was only ever beneficial to sell the Demio A-spec for some more cash!). It at least gave me a chance to use the first 10,000 credits try a whole bunch of different cars. In the end, I would always stick to the old school Supra before I could afford something quicker. My dad was a good dad though, he saw how upset we were that our progress would start again each day so one Friday night my mum said he spent all night awake swearing in frustration as he got through all of the licence tests ready for us to enjoy all of Saturday. Good memories
Once we finally got a memory card a whole new world opened up, I was able to finish the game and amass all of my favourite cars. I would always stick to modifying the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo as much as was possible, and try to hit 400km/hr going backwards around the Test Track. I don’t think I’ve ever played more hours on one game than the original Gran Turismo, the only one that would come close is Tekken 3 or Madden NFL 2005.
Anyway, the other games in the series have come and gone and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them (probably GT4 the least to be honest), but it still has a nostalgic affect on me, so the news that number 6 is coming out soon excites me. It’s a lot better than the ridiculous wait for 5! The IGN article I posted got me pretty excited for it, however I really think they should’ve waited until the PS4 to release it on that platform as GT5 was just too big of a game for the PS3 to handle (think of all the time we’ve wasted waiting for loading screens to finish).
Here’s hoping the graphics and gameplay are up to the task, pretty excited for this!
