MY07 head unit in MY06 Liberty?

Postby dtgroat » Wed May 29, 2013 12:07 pm

Hi All,

I have just perchased a MY06 Liberty wagon which has just the single disc CD player in it. I was wondering if the MY07 head unit/climate control unit (with MP3 & 6 stacker CD) will plug straight in. I can get hold of one of these units but want to know about fitment first before I outlay the money for it.

Cheers.
Daniel.

Won't work unfortunately, unless you re-Wire all your speakers to a Macintosh amp under the passenger seat.. Then after that I'm not sure the climate controls are compatible

Your climate control/heater will be the issue. CD. No Mac amp as you're a 2.0R, I assume.

I am lead to believe the climate control can work but not sure what's involved. Dr20t (mick) could tell you more as I think he did the swap at some stage.

Yeah 2.0R. Just thought it might be as easy as plug n go if the terminals were the same. There seems to be the same buttons (but in a couple of different places) on the climate control section. I will try and ask Dr20t for his experience.

It'll physically fit in the cut out, but that's about it.

As I mentioned above, you won't get any sound or anything out of it because the McIntosh/6 stacker uses an external amplifier for the speakers which is under the passenger seat. This is something your non-McIntosh doesn't have.

Where did he mention that he is getting a McIntosh headunit? The facelift's came with 6 stackers that played MP3's in the base model (non McIntosh headunit).

But yes, the AC controls are your issue. The headunit will plug in fine and work (with sound output provided it isnt a McIntosh).

If its the kenwood 6 stack MP3 player the stereo will work climate will not. If its a Macintosh nothing will work.

Its just the base model head unit. Not the MacIntosh one. And also only has the single zone climate control like I have now.
