I got taught to do exactly what BBB said. Pretty much not to throttle the shifter and force it to do anything. 'It knows what gear it wants to go in'.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm a competent manual truck / car driver.

Exactly what my old man taught me when I was learning.. You only need to 'guide' it in to gear not force/push it..

Of course, if you're racing, you'd not have a stock gearbox either (or you wouldn't hold out much hope for a stock gearbox to last).

The drags recently run at Eastern Creek were on SBS yesterday, watching the drivers row through the gears on their sequential shifters, there wasn't much mechanical sympathy being shown. :)
