Possible base to make a compact Car PC from. $169

Has anyone played with one of these?
Could be a nice way to make your own GPS/Guage display/Dash Cam/Trip computer...

Cool, but windows CE?

Should have gone with android if they wanted to really sell it. Especially considering the price.

I have just mounted a Nexus 7 tablet in my liberty for GPS, Music and Torque.
Works really well.

windows ce has its advantages, you can run garmin without mobile data. you could also possibly even run centrafuse (depending on the processor)

Here is a quick photo of it.

The cord is the USB cord to charge it. I'm waiting on a car charger to arrive from ebay so I can permanently wire it up, and hide the cord.

The surround also hasn't been finished yet.

Had a couple of PMs asking for more info, so i'll post it up here.

The tablet is roughly 5 or 6mm too wide to fit between the air vents, so i had to cut out a slot in each.
The tablet then slides up in these slots until it hits the top of the surround.

The USB connection is on the bottom of the tablet, which makes it on the left side in the picture.
The USB cable hits on the fins inside the air vent, so they were also modified to allow the cable to fit, while still allowing the fins to fit and work properly.

The 3.5mm headphone output is on the same side as the USB conection, so again i had to cut into the air vent plastic to allow the cable to plug in.
The 3.5mm plug simply runs behind the stereo, under the center console and into the AUX input in the center console bin.

Software-wise, i use the standard Google Play Music app for music, Sygic for GPS and Torque for diagnostic info on the car.
When the key is turned on, a subaru logo is displayed for 4 seconds, GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth are turned on, the music app is opened and it begins to play music.
When the key is turned off, the GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth are turned off, the GPS app is closed, the music is paused and the same subaru logo is showed for 4 seconds, then the screen is turned off.

Hey There,

Came across your post looking at doing something similar to my GT and was wondering how you got the tablet to:

"When the key is turned on, a subaru logo is displayed for 4 seconds, GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth are turned on, the music app is opened and it begins to play music.
When the key is turned off, the GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth are turned off, the GPS app is closed, the music is paused and the same subaru logo is showed for 4 seconds, then the screen is turned off.
"

Cheers

For those using android, check out these apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... kerm&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... lock&hl=en

Using those 2 apps you can configure custom voice commands that you can then map to do certain things on your device.
So many possibilities.

With the addition of a few more apps and some home integration gear, you can do things like this (I would rather use touch then voice in that situation but still cool - better yet set up mics around your house and have Hal):

Sorry Urgosh, hadn't checked these forums for a while.

The app i used is Tasker. You can set it up to do almost anything when a certain even happens (such as power connecting or disconnecting).
