Time to go to Delvac/5k OCI'S.
You should get a tactrix ASAP, ill send you my standalone logging profiles.
Forget all mods till you establish the overall health of your car at least. :)

Agreed.

I don't know where you find the patience ben!

One thing: glamour tune? I know MSR isn't as cheap as say torqued or kido, but he's FAR cheaper than others?

MSR dyno tune is less than half the price of the crappy MRT Ecutek road tune.

Newbie, I added a VF52, intake and =L headers and I jumped 30kw (200kw).
Lag is definitely a lot more noticeable.
Mine went from full boost at 2700rpm to 3400rpm with the VF52. (see my profile dyno graphs).
The intake reduces lag, headers and bigger turbo increases lag.

Thanks Peter,

So it seems yes more power but not as responsive till later on in rpm ?

OK, I do keep hearing this. So the questions are:

1. What does it do?
2. Why do I want it?

In a 6MT the VF52 reaches 18.5psi at 3140rpm.

I found spool to be very similar to the VF46 but you got that bit more up top where as the 46 ran out of puff.

Yep, its no where near as responsive down low as the standard turbo.

I think the headers also make a big difference to lag.

I would be interested to retune my car with the standard headers to see what the difference is.

That's pretty good for a 98 tune

On e85 that'd be 2500-2600 I'd say

So glad the experts tuned in :P

Yep that's why MSR is a "glamour tune" :)

Jackson: that WRX probably has bigger injectors?

Anyhow with some more research we could put together a taxonomy of upgrades/supporting mods/results.
No wait I think Rome has one here!

The more I read Benny re vf52 it seems like there is really not much advantage other than not running out of puff so early !

On the street: not that much maybe.
On a freeway ramp: yes at the upper rev range.
On the dyno/e85/full monty: yes.

Don't believe me: research it for yourself!

Peter (Poida) and i have the same cars with the same mods and both use MSR. I still have the VF46 and the stock headers, he has the VF52 and equal length headers. If you compare our dyno graphs you will clearly see the difference between the VF46 & VF52.

Although it might seem like the VF52 only adds to your peak power, he has a clear difference in power even at the mid rev range. By around 4300rpm his car starts to produce more power than mine and that gap grows quickly from then on. I live in Sydney so rarely get a chance to hit redline in the car, but i could definitely still get to a rev range where the bigger turbo could be felt.

And from the sounds of it, poida's turbo hits full boost a little later than others, that may be caused by the headers? So given that, if you avoid the headers you may start to notice the difference in power much earlier than 4300rpm. 8)

I really couldnt answer that for certain.. i was basing that on the spool up time for Poida's in comparison to Bass_straightener's.
