OK I'll give that a go as well. Thanks.
But why does the unit and the manual both state that it can read mp3 and wma?

Just tried something different too.....tried the mp3 thing again, this time putting the files into a folder on the disc, not in the root directory. This time the unit reads the disc, and starts playing, but although the timer reads the seconds ticking away, but there is no sound output......

and use this thread to find what suits your car: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=16196

I second the iTunes option. Do what Ben said, create an mp3 audio disc (data wont work) using it. I've made many many many discs like that. WMA is.. (EDIT - never mind)

PS - did you dig to China to find this thread ;) :P

Thanks guys. Appreciate the help. And yes, thought I'd use the search function of the board and dig for answers!
Thinking I might go even further in the opposite direction to what I was looking at after reading about Statts' In-Dash Nexus 7 Project!!

So annoying the amount of folders iTunes creates when it burns a disc. Shit.

Make sure the songs in the playlist is ordered by number (furthest column on the left) and not by anything else (eg title, artist etc). That should put them in a single folder when burning an mp3 disc
