LED Reverse Lights

Postby Rosso » Thu May 08, 2008 9:05 pm

Hi All,

The mrs has been complaining lately that she cant see the gate whilst backing out the driveway at night, sooo, i was wanting to know if anyone knows of a good quality brighter reverse light bulb (led possibly) to suit the liberty's. Something that plugs straight in would be great, i dont wanna have to upgrade wiring or fit fogs.

Ive got an MY07 sedan but im not sure what type bulb it is off the top of my head. Hopefully i can get brighter lights before something goes wrong

Thanks all :D
Cheers,

Rosso.

I try to work in reversing whenver I can, even if it means going back a few cm before going forward again at the lights. :blush2:

Rosso, our Libs use the 921 bulb, which uses the same wedge base as the corner lights, but has an enlarged head for greater light output.

I'm sorry to say that despite being much better looking in appearance, LED's are dimmer in terms of illumination. So LED is not the way to go in your case.

I have seen the 50-watt bulb especially design for reversing, but those only come in the bayonet (twist) configuraiton.

However if worse comes to worst, have you thought about getting those rear foglights like in the JDM models but is covered up by the ugly plastic covers for our Australian variant? Those should provide good auxiliary lighting.

Thanks for the info Arith, bugger about the bulbs though.

Yeah i was actually looking into the jdm foggies a while back but had no luck with sourcing em. Any ideas on places to search?

I might end up having to install lights for the driveway, damn it. :x
Cheers,

How about just some reflective tape or reflectors along the edges of the gate and along the driveway? This should make positioning a bit easier. Or as CheesyMong suggested, a reverse camera if you have the money.

Nah man. You gotta get the LED strips with a controller so they light up in sequence, like an airstrip :D

Good idea, aside from the minor issue of going directly to jail, not passing go but going direct to jail. :)

I'd be more inclined to worry about the blinded person behind you that's not stopping because they can't see and violently rams their front bar into your bum.
