Yeah spot on gents

The engineering headache turned me off

As did the loss of abs and cruise control which would've ensued

Also hit a snag with even the auto conversion now :( (later model 5eat box)

The ratios in the prefacelift 5eat are different to the facelift (3.23 in pre vs 3.08 in post facelift)

I have the rear diff / tailshaft and driveshafts from the post facelift so the mechanical hardware isn't an issue.

Seems the tcu in the preface 5eat is only set to work with the preface box

I have the tcu from the post facelift parts car here and the wiring but apparently a guy in the states on the legacy forum reckons its not a simple swap of the tcu as wires need to be spliced etc and merge the two together.

So I can do one of a few things:

1. Run the unchartered waters and do the swap and try make the post facelift tcu work

2. Run a stand alone aftermarket tcu for the facelifted 5eat

3. Sell the facelifted 5eat setup and build up my current auto box (the problem I have with this is the facelifted box is stronger from factory in a few respects - not majorly stronger but stronger nonetheless to handle the 2.5 turbo)

Decisions decisions....

What do you want to do and what should you do???

Is it safer/easier to use the original box to a detriment??

Is the later box going to handle the power and driving style much better??

Or will they both handle the power/style after a good rebuild??
Not a Subaru...... Something MUCH better

NOPE..... That's shit too. Bus anyone??

Good questions which I'm trying to figure out

To be honest the only reason I'm asking is because I don't want my car off the road again while I rebuild the auto

I have a couple of guys in the states working on a changeover package for the internals, which they can send and in the meantime I have my auto guy pull mine apart, when the new bits arrive send off the old stuff back to em

I'm thinking to sell this setup and buy a preface box then build that one up

Both boxes built can handle the power I think

More questions then.

With the current boxes that you have, will either of them support 300kw atw in their current , un beefed up form??

And if so, how long will they... Piece of string question!!

Is the inevitable going to need to happen??

No, don't know and yes

No way a stock box can handle that power for long, and certainly not with launches and hard driving

Will definitely need a build either way

I'm having the innards of my 5EAT cryogenically treated, helps a lot apparently.
My box is getting underway, should be done in 2 weeks if parts can be sourced promptly.

Good luck with yours mick, I'd change the box for a prefacelift personally....

CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw

Hi

What I meant was, if you need prefacelift to have an easier install, get one of those.
Then you can be 100% the TCU will work with ECU.

Once opened and clutched, cryo'd bearings etc it will be able to take some punishment.

Getting closer for both of us now :-)

Gotcha !

And yes that's the plan - thus why I have listed my post facelift setup for sale

Car idled well yesterday after some help from Matt to the base tune, along with some invaluable knowlege from tony, and some other little things I did.

Afr's are now hovering between 14 and 15 : 1 at idle which is pretty good for id2000's, 4 bar map sensor, 76mm maf and no proper scaling as yet.

We also dumped the eflex fuel last night completely and today will refill with fresh stuff and hope that might help a little with stabilizing idle.

Not going to promise a tune date anymore I guess it will get done when it gets done.
