2007 MY08 Services

Postby Stewie1995 » Sun May 05, 2013 7:58 pm

Just wondering when the services are due for a 2.5l 2007 MY08 sedan that im going to buy. I know its about 12,500km's. The one im going to buy is currently on 95,000km but had a service 2 months ago. I am wondering when the major is due for this model and how much approx it will cost. Thanks.

Major will be at 100k and depends on where you go on how much it will cost. Always a little more expensive at Subaru. $1200 will be the approx price for the major.

EDIT: $1200 through Subaru, $1000 elsewhere. Only saving will be on labor.

Major service which is the timing belt is at 125k - just did mine this weekend at home (250k km on the MY08). All services are at 12.5k km intervals.

Subaru changed it to 125k as they spread the major service over two services so it's not as expensive, fluids at 100k and timing belt etc. at 125k or some other variation of that.

I was given a tip to replace the water pump when you do the timing belt as it works out cheaper in the long run.

I was told that the water pump won't last much past 130,000km and its a big job getting it out.

Interesting comment on the 130k km on the water pump, I replaced mine at the timing belt service and it was pretty much fine - no roughness in the bearing and no noises or play in the shaft. And that was after 250k km.....

What...?? You got 250,000 out of a water pump?? Shit!!

Been told and seen proof that the pumps fail anywhere from 125,000k.

Freaky pump there mate!!
Not a Subaru...... Something MUCH better

NOPE..... That's shit too. Bus anyone??

I thought the 100,000kms service was supposed to be $2k, but I spoke with a local Subaru mechanic, Ross @ Cromwell’s in Burwood, Victoria - http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/cr ... ce/burwood who advised that the MY07 (2007) models and beyond had split the servicing costs of over a few intervals, and the costs are as follows:

87,000kms service - $250
100,000kms service - $350
112,000kms service - $650
125,000kms service - $700

I was told that the MY06(?) and earlier models had a more expensive 100k major service.

Maybe give Ross a call?

Interesting on the surprise on getting 250k - I've owned a lot of Honda's (currently have a collection of 6 at the moment) over the years and they also have a belt driven water pump setup in the mid 80's models through to roughly 00 models (changed to chain drive camshafts rather than the belt drive) and all of those cars its normal to get 200k + out of a water pump; normally the pump seal ends up failing and needing replacement rather than anything else. This is my first Subaru so am still learning what's normal for this manufacturer.
