Greetings all

Just an update..my claim got approved!!

Luckily, they didnt even realise there was an aftermarket intake installed (Hyperflow). I dont know if it was a lack of experience on their end or not knowing what is inside of a Liberty STi OR if they @ the service centre we just nice about it and let it pass. Either way, saved me $4k!

So now I have a brand new turbo installed...I was sent photos of the damage to the turbo and the shaft had snapped off clean inside the unit. Ouch.

I must say the service person I was dealing with at this centre was extremely helpful.

One negative is when I picked the car up they said it needed a new battery as the one I had wouldnt hold charge and was completely dead. I was shocked as I bought a top end battery a couple of months prior. Took it home as the engine had to keep running. Turned off and restarted and yep...no start.

Whacked it on charge overnight and in the morning checked the indicator on battery which ready Battery OK. Started the car and it worked perfectly.

They must have left the ATT on or interior light on overnight or all day draining the battery. Anyhow...overall cost me nothing but some time. :D

Can you choose where your car gets fixed?

You could get a very decent aftermarket turbo and exhaust for $4k

Probably not. :(

Good news that they warrantied it. Realistically, unless they could show that the new intake or even a tune actually caused the failure, they'd have a hard time denying the claim.

If you have to get a factory replacement turbo, get the VF52 over the standard VF46. It's a bigger turbo and a direct bolt up (25% more potential power).

From the sounds of things the turbo replacement has already happened.

that's right, turbo replacement had already happened. I didnt know if I had a choice of turbo to be fitted!

BUT...the car seems definitely more powerful/boostier. Getting new brake pads fitted tomorrow morning so will have the mechanic check it out and tell me what type is in.

It will absolutely be a stock turbo as the car shipped with from the factory.

But it (and some other stuff around it, possibly including the factory diverter/BoV) will be brand new, and that will have an impact on the car. They also likely ran upper engine cleaner through it and reset the ECU at the same time, so that will potentially have an impact on performance too.

Plus your "bum-o-meter" is tuned to see differences :P
