Firstly, you'll need at least 3A to invoke AC charging (Check Settings > Battery to see if you're USB or AC charging) and counter the drain of having screen always on, GPS and wifi on etc etc. To achieve this, you'll need a quality USB cable that's not too long. 24AWG USB cable is recommended. If you're using a cigarette lighter adapter to get your require amperage. A lot of people going through this seem to recommend the Rocketfish branded one. For those hard wiring with a 12v-5v DC-DC converter, the cheap ones on Ebay most likely won't cut it.

For anyone using a Nexus 7, you really should have a look at Timur's USB-ROM (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/37755-timurs-kernel-usb-rom-usb-host-power-management-usb-audio/) as it has solutions to a lot of the common hurdles including getting the tablet to deep sleep. Even has landscape oriented UI (no more turning your head for the settings menu!).

I'm looking at putting that ROM on and getting a usb dac, can you recommend any that have a volume knob that might sit nicely under the tablet? Would something like this be suitable, remembering I have stock speakers so I don't need $$$$ audiophile spec

Also the rocketfish chargers seemed to be 2.1A? At the moment I have this usb charger which has one 2.1A and one 1A output. If I buy one of those Y cables that connect to both sockets and output to one will I get 3.1A? EDIT: just saw your post in the other thread about that ebay 5v converter, which is preferable?

Am trying to get this tablet to a stage where it doesn't piss me off, which is not now haha. Also the update to the stock android music player is terrible! Orange on white! Who thought of that one :nono:

I like winamp on my phone but not so much on my tablet, trying out poweramp at the moment. Also iSyncr works great for syncing wirelessly with your itunes library

Have a look at 'Now Playing' by Jack Underwood. It's a new music app he created recently. Looks pretty good from what I've seen

Krosbow awesome write up man. I'll be attempting this when I get home next week! Just curious, how does the Bluetooth ODBKey go? Any problems with compatibility/connection? You drive an 06' right? Not sure if they're compatible with my 07................

Guys Im struggling to see how my nexus is going to fit without cutting out both vents (otherwise the screen will not be centered).

What were the dimensions of your nexus's? I think I have the newer GSM model which may be a bit bigger.

Its roughly 195 x 120mm

TheFirstEskimo,

if you have a Nexus 7 1st gen (2012) you can either cut the vents yourself or buy this for about $300:

JapanParts' in-house part number for the 915 fascia is 107-203-002 and can be found here https://www.japanparts.com/db/parts_det ... RCH_page=3

If you have a Nexus 7 2nd gen (2013) it's a bit bigger I don't think will fit in the above part without modification. I haven't seen a 2nd gen in a car install to date.

Monkey,

I got mine finished. Not %100 happy with the finish/alighnment of it but I can live with it for the time being. I also dont like how the screen is not centered in the cutout and how the camera is partially obscured. I will probably end up going with the facia sometime down the track.

One thing I can say, is that the sound is amazing. It is even better than the CD player which is strange, as a lot of people have reported bad sound using the 3.5 cable method. Maybe when I had the ribbon repaired it improved...... who knows.

Glad to finally get this mod finished :D

The finish on the bezel isn't quite perfect but I'm sorta happy with it for a first attempt.
