And they keep trying to tell me that the majority of what I call "the issue" is perfectly normal.. The 2l is apparently highly strung. I wonder how ecu remapping gets an appriciable increase in output if this is so. Grab a honda vtech and try and get 20-40kw more out of it! I have not tried, but I am told that this is imposible from ecu alone. But honda's don't seem to surge (ok it's not a turbo... But!).
A couple of the boys on here have alluded to the idea that a remap makes our cars even smoother, but I want to know that mine is running right before I go there. I will keep you posted in the hope that it might kill some of the search time for you if we get a result. Let's see what the new ECU brings shortly, I don't think that they have it yet...

Also since we are bitching, what's with the half second or so dely between putting your foot on the accel and getting a reaction From the throttle? Subaru says that it is simply the way an electronic or 'fly by wire' throttle works but i have driven several other makes of car with FBW with no discernable problem, and when I drove the new forrester the other day it didn't seem to either. The update of my ecu 9 months ago seemed to help but it's still very much there??????With all the other problems (minor but annoying) I dare not ask to revisit this one...

05gtwagonman wrote:How do you get the 'tune' to the car?

Is there any reason why you couldnt get a ECU tuned for a car.. and then copy it amongst other cars (providing they are identical cars with identical levels of modification)
Other than manufacturing tolerance's I cant see any reason why this wouldnt work (of course, this wouldnt work for different transmissions)
My thoughts are:
this seems to be effecting MY05's.. we should get one ecu tuned (if we are all running 5spd manual) or two if there is some auto's floating around.. we should also order a bulk qty of o2 sensors (one each) and replace all of our sensors, hopefully resulting in a substantial discount.. the new sensor combined with a new ECU tune should (hopefully) result in an alleviation of the surging issue + the added bonus of a significnat power increase for around $500 (cost of o2 sensor + a % of the cost of the ECU tune?)
Thoughts?
