Some advice if I may:
1. Stay away from the avo turbo
So I've heard from a number of sources. Advice taken.

2. From what I have seen and reading your requirements, I think the vf52 would be a good upgrade if you can get one for a reasonable price (say 750-1000). Failing that I would suggest you look at the kinugawa td05-18g bolt on. Relatively cheap and seen some pretty good results with some reliability from these, which is good considering the price
Thanks, I'll check that out too.
3. Go with michael's reccomendations on Dixcel - you won't regret it

I suspect only my wallet will.

4. Rear swaybar, LCA bushes and some EIBACH or H&R springs with revalved bilsteins to suit are a good upgrade if you don't want to go with coilovers.
Thanks. I remember ALKs were all the rage with the WRX boys at one stage - are they needed on a Liberty? I'll be pestering coyote about suspension

5. E85/ eflex is king so if you can find one close to you that's convenient then I would go down that path at the same time as turbo upgrade.
The issue is it's a family car, and it just isn't likely that I'll be able to find E85 all the time.
The only other thing i would say is you're not really going to get an early spooling, mid range punchy and hold to redline turbo unless you look at the higher end turbos and potentially twist mount it. The closest you will come to this is solid low to mid range and and ok top end with the two turbos I suggested above. Even then, you WILL run out of puff at 6500 rpm or so. If you really want the top end you will inevitably sacrifice some low end spool.
Yeah, I know that everything is a compromise. I was considering a ball-bearing turbo because apparently they spool a bit sooner than journal bearing units (and thus I was hoping to get the top end I want, but with a spool not much later than the VF46. But BB turbos also seem to cost a lot more, and Michael from MSR says I can get 200kW ATW with a VF52 and only sacrifice a few hundred rpm on spool, so I'll go with his recommendation.
I also have my tbsti wheels up for sale so if you go to garage 88 for your brakes anytime soon ask Michael to have a look at my wheels that are there and let me know if you're interested. No real hurry to sell as I may keep them as my track wheels but id let them go for the right offer
Don't do that to me...
Good luck and enjoy the modding - just hang onto your wallet on these forums there are waaaaay too many bad influences

Mick
Yeah, I get a feeling I'll be scrounging just to pay for the next fix...
