2005 MY05 Headlights

Postby CaidsTech » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:24 pm

Hey guys,

After a set of MY05 headlight enclosures.

Recently I noticed that my left light had gone out the other day so went and bought some new lamps, went to chuck them in and found that the dipshit who had replaced them in the first place had broken the clips that hold the lamps in, and just showed the lamp in which had fell out of the socket and subsequently melted half of the enclosure along with the connecting cable. The other was held in with a piece of wire and 3 zip ties. Needless to say, not going back there again. :angry2:

So yeah, if you have any available, let me know!

Cheers!

Hi, if the 3.0RB shares the same headlights as the GT i have a set lying around i was keeping as spares, no broken clips, only issue is the lense has quite few fines cracks/scratches on them thats why i changed them. If you could switch the lense over from yours you could use them? (Not sure how hard this would be though)

The retaining clip is very brittle and snaps easy, has happened to a lot of us.

All headlights 04-06 are the same, though you'll find the gt (and 3.0?) have the blacked out headlights, as opposed to the 2.5i etc are not blacked out.

Sounds good to me mate, how much would you be after for them? Yeah I'm not sure about replacing the lens, a mate at work might have a bit more info on that so I'll ask him when i can.

Oh ok, I wasn't aware it was such a known issue, thought it was just a tard that dealt with mine previously.. Are there any suggested fixes or anything? Also on the blacked out lights I dont believe mine are..

*EDIT* Just searched, seems zipties are it.

I have been using zip ties for more than a year and have not had any problems. I also add a couple of little dots of silicone between the bulb base and the headlight to ensure if the zip tie does break, then the silicone will hold it. To remove, it comes away with a firm grip but feel assured of not melting my Headlight if the zip breaks.

3.0R had the full silver chrome internal reflectors. GT had the black chrome internal reflectors. I have just re-installed a set of GT headlights in my MY05 3.0R and the originals are now sitting in my garage for some future mod. The drivers side one has a broken clip which also uses a zip tie to hold the bulb in place.

Even with the original clips working, I think it is wise on all MY04-MY06 models to have this zip tie in place as a secondary precaution.
