Do these things run that rich under load you call pull that much fuel out without melting the engine?

They run super lean from idle to 3200rpm, which kills low rpm torque
Throttle angle change is so big constantly that they throw in fuel with throttle tip(EFI version of accelerator pump)

Smoothing out the values gives a half decent fuel economy increase ;) The rest is smoothing timing and fueling

I find that extremely hard to believe.

I also sit on 8.8 getting between 600-650 a tank with plenty of WOT driving...

"Around town" as in, sitting in stop start traffic, or "around town" as in, driving around on ring ways, city link roads, etc?

I cannot see how people could possibly be getting 600+ kms out of an identical car when others are getting 350-400kms out of the same vehicle. The obvious explanation is significantly different driving conditions.

Daily driving, dropping kids off to school and then drive to work. That is post tune... he also gets 6's on the highway
Not bad for a Blitzen :)

Averaging 9.8 at the moment.
60 and 70kmh speed limits, traffic lights and a bit of traffic.
I don't know how people get less than 450km's out of a tank. Even on the throttle on drives i couldn't use that much fuel!

I see.

So you fatten the low end but cut back on tip in?

Tell me about it. Two relatively in tune cars with no mechanical issues shouldn't differ by 200+ km a tank. I don't believe that tuning can make that much difference, plus mine is properly tuned (150+kw at the wheels). Very, very odd.

City driving as in traffic lights every few hundred metres crawling around in low gears all the time?
If yes, of course you are going to use substantially more fuel.

Depending where and how im driving and for how long im driving my fuel consumption can vary from 8.6 on the freeway to 14 around town.

Unless you are driving exactly the same as everyone eles on the same roads as everyone else with the same traffic you won't be able to compare fuel consumption.

i cannot see one doing 600 around town on the high way it could be possible but its funny how all these tuned cars get such different fuel consuptions

450KM from a tank is absolutely normal under those circumstances. that's what i get from an almost stock 3RB.
(which is actually 13.3L/100km from the 60 Litres that goes in)

down to 8.4L/100km (and even 8.2 on some occasions) when on the open road.
remembering that i'm on Tassie's twisty and hilly "highways"

Agreed to the post above, i bet my consumption would be over 13L in heavy city traffic too.
Just went for a spirited drive, pushing the car really hard, average was 11.6 over 150km's with the rpm rarely under 4k.
