Any chance you could confirm with your mechanic how much/how difficult just inspecting/cleaning the inlet cam sensors is?
I'm not sure if e.g. the tmic or inlet mani has to be removed to access them...
I asked Docklands for a quote on that too, last chance before going the gears...

The sensor on the turbo side is a pain to get to from memory? Mine were easy to get to since I don't have tmic or air pump system....

Cam sensors are $230-$250 each? Ebay Celtic motors sells them way cheaper... I didn't get charged for labour so can't give you a guestimation price.....

They are hall effect sensors? magnetic type i think? They detect the slot triggers on the camshaft which are fixed, Don't think the sensors require cleaning? Unless your engine oil has metal fibers in it....

To test and check them would be to log them on how they trigger, check connections, measure resistance in the cables voltage/current values and compare between left and right?

I plan to do some more logs this weekend, does anyone have a logger profile they can send me. The friend that helped me is away and I have to do it for myself. Have just installed RomRaider logger and latest definitions and I have hundreds of attributes to select. Any help appreciated.

Although my AVCS logs looked fine in previous maps, I still have and idle with a hiccup and hesitation in acceleration. My 92 2.2T Leggy GT is smoother..

the early cars had oil pressure system the later cars use electic motor worm gear that moves a ramp on the inlet cam

Electric motor change was for variable valve actuation since they no longer run a throttle body, airflow is controlled at the inlet valve. They would have stayed with oil pressure but obviously valve actuation needed a motor anyway and the motor changes the fulcrum similar to the VQ37 engine

Well my replacement cam gears are here as well as the OCVs.

I've booked the car in to get them installed along with the timing belt service within the fortnight.

This will fix my AVCS issues and it'll be happy motoring going forwards.

I think Ben is going to install things in stages and log for changes.

Plan is to install the OCV solenoids, STi pitch stop, SG AOS, AEM wideband and smart TMIC waterspray (phew!) all at the same time, then retune a hopefully healthier rig .

If not, then early timing belt service @ 180k...

Ill be checking the throttle butterfly for gunk too, as well as flushing the TMIC.
Tempted to replace the TB hose pending inspection.

Also will you be needing a tune revision? I vaguely recall you saying something about MSR tuned around the avcs issue to lessen the damage being done or some such?

The parts arrived this week from Celtic, thanks Bruce for making the order.
Since my timing belt service is still 20k away, I manned up and installed the OCV solenoids myself.
Pretty easy to do, about an hour and a half in total.
The solenoids looked fine with no obvious gunk or foreign particles blocking them.
Results are very promising so far, no oscillation of RHS angle so far.
The Lib feels nice and tight down low too .

Also I removed the passenger side banjo bolt: no filter in there (MY07)...
Not sure about drivers side, best to let alone.
That side is easy to remove once the short fat hose is removed at any rate...
