I was thinking about a wet look carbon fibre version but I want to see one up close before I commit. Also, I have to add a custom mount as the sticky backing does not hold well to the mesh.

Well I hope you all had a good Easter and the Easter Bunny left you lots of "chocolate"goodies for your cars!!!

I had a great one! Finally, a set of 5 x STI rims is sitting in my garage.

This pic is of the roughly cleaned ones (on the left) and a hand cleaned and lightly polished one (on the right).

Still a lot of gutter rash and scraps to get rid of, so the wheels will go in for a complete refinishing and then some new rubber. Probably on the car in late April or early May.

What a great Easter! :D

Very nice, are you keeping the colour the same or will you be spraying these?

Al,

I will be keeping the original colour as I think it is the best match for a white car.

Thanks guys. I do like the original STI wheels. Been my favorites for a while and when this opportunity came up, well, the fun now begins tomorrow with getting quotes on having them checked and refinished.

Wheels went into the refurbishment place today, at a local place called Wheel Tech (Sth Dandenong). They will be perfoming the rerolling to ensure they are straight with no buckles, repair any cracks (if safe to do so) and remachine the edges where needed before priming and adding 2 top coats and a clear coat. Oven baked for a day, then let stand to harden for a couple more. Seemed to say all the right words and gave me a reasonable price for the 5 wheels. Will pick them up after the school holidays.

They will be close to the original colour, but not the original Subaru shadow chrome as it was too expensive (300 to 350 per wheel!!! :angry2: ). What I am getting is $150 per wheel and I will post some pics when I pick then up.

The painter tried to talk me into a glossy black finish. Reckons they would look fully sick on a white car! :bad: Nah, staying with the chrome silver look for now.

Tyres? Well thinking about the Pirelli PZero Neros in 215/45 18. Any thoughts? Spotted these from Ozzy tyres at $180 each. Sounds like a bargain?

Took me a couple of years, but they were low on the priority list really. Just happened to be cashed up when they became available.

I would not say yours are safe by any means just yet! Need to wait and see how they scrub up. If they don't come up well enough, you may find your car wearing some shoddy wheels when you next take a close look!!!

Well done mark

If I can give any advice it would be to upgrade your proposed tyres from nero's to rossos

I had the nero's (and have a set with 80% tread left on them in 225/40/18 still ), but they are quite noisy and having been in Jerome's car with the rossos I would definitely recommend those over the nero's

Alternatively a good band for buck tyre is the Kumho ku31 - 140 or so a pop (just be careful you're not buying 12 month + old tyres as they have probably gone hard). Even "new" (on eBay) does not necessarily mean "new"

Good luck and post pics when done

Mick

Could have taken mine when you were at Marks, although it's not 5! I spread them out just so you couldn't take them

p.s wheel painter knew what he was saying when he suggested charcoal / darker colour.
