Pioneer Advanced App Mode

So I sold my JVC head unit with navigation and upgraded to a Pioneer AVH-P8450BT. This unit doesn't have navigation but has advanced app mode which allows me to plug my iPhone/iPod touch/iPad into it and basically 'extend' compatible apps on to the screen such as navigation. All was well and good up until about 3 months ago when it stopped working.

I contacted Pioneer and the response I got was essentially 'blame Apple'.. Something to do with the most recent software update (6.x.x) that was released with the iPhone 5. Apparently it was to be fixed with the most recent software update which I did 2 days ago.

Low and behold, went out to test it tonight and it doesn't work! Anyone else rely on the advanced app mode and having the same issues? It's not my phone because the same thing happens with my iPod, it's not software corruption as it has been re-installed many many times.

Help anyone?

Further to the above, if anyone in Sydney has an AAM Pioneer head unit that currently works I'd love to be able to meet up Tuesday or Wednesday night to test mine out.
