I'd tell Exedy to keep it and give Jim a ring....

Sssssooooo

Been a looooonnnggg time to update. But finally got my mechanic and my ass into gear about this gearbox.

And the news is

My gear box is fine.!!

My clutch is a piece of shit tho !!!

All the rattling and grinding noises is because the clutch is a heavy piece of garbage with a massive pressure plate or some shit.!! Its transferring all the natural noises of the 6 speed through into the cabin.

So im just gunna run this clutch into the ground and get a proper one when this one poo's itself.!!!

Its a BIG fffffeeeeewwww as i wipe my brow and i DONT kiss $4k down the toilet!! Yey

Pssh just tell her that two of your tyres have internal sidewall damage (she won't be fecked to check) and that they need to be replaced, but that the tyre shop you normally go to only sells R19 tyres so they wouldn't fit on your current wheels, and so you can buy a wheel and tyre package for $XXX (the higher the x, the more flowers/dinners/  / you need to give).

Problem solved!

Another Exedy HD POS.

Just for everyone else's benefit to not go through the pain that you have

What did the clutch kit + all the extra expenses cost? (not including the original install)

Well the sports organic kit was $500-600 from memory. The labour was another $500ish with machined flywheel etc.

The latest tests etc haven't cost me anything... Just frustration.!!

My mechanic says the std rated stuff is the best for noise etc and maybe the slightly stiffer sti spec clutches but anything else has that possibility to sound shit!!

He also said that my gggaaaaaaaaarrrr noise on back off in gear is from the beat rush diff mount possibly. So gunna chuck the std sti one back on to see if that makes it better. If it is then i either suck it up in reference to noise or just keep the stock sti one. It is also because the clutch is transmitting soooo much noise that the extra stiffness down the back under the diff is just exaggerated.

jacks-GTB wrote:it's your clutch.....those rattle like a bitch.....

does it doing it when you completely back off?

From exedy website - All the sports organic/ceramic do it :(

IMPORTANT: With any ceramic button clutch system, there will be some compromise of start-up driveability when compared to a standard clutch (chatter on light throttle, low RPM start-up) in addition to an increase in cabin/transmission noise. This characteristic is generally deemed acceptable in modified performance cars. Drivers of vehicles fitted with cerametallic clutches on the street should be warned not to ride the clutch or try to reduce the chatter as this will greatly increase the wear rate. The above information should be used as a guide only, please consult your Exedy distributor if further advice is required.
Available Configurations:
Sports Organic Clutch Kit
Sports Ceramic Clutch Kit
Race Ceramic Clutch Kit

Should I expect to have a 'squeak' every time I kick and release the clutch pedal? I'm not sure if the noise is coming from the clutch disc or the thrust bearing. I'm only using a HD Clutch kit following a single mass conversion on a EJ25. :?

The squeak... Is it inside the foot well or out side the car.

If its inside just spray some lub around the pedal mechanism. If its outside then yes it could be the thrust bearing being a little dry, but it usually vibrates on engagement under the foot.

It sounds like it is outside and I can feel it more so when the kick and release action is faster. It's a surprise considering the bearing was lubricated with the Exedy supplied grease.
