As the engine ecu controls the cruise control, it is a normal occurance to have the crusie light flash when there is an engine management malfunction, this is for safety reasons that the crusie is disabled.
There can be a number of reasons why the engine light is on, can be related to engine management or if your vehicle is auto it may also be a mil request from the transmission. 1st step would be to determine what the CEL reads then take the action required to resolve it.
From my own experience the Hitachi ECU is not open source if the problem is secondary air related. You would need to renew the faulty bits or fit a secondary air eliminator.
But as i said first thing first. Determine the cause by someone who can review the data correctly.
