grill- DIY or buy?

hey guys,

Grills...

owner of an 06 liberty 3.0R. i have recently come into some money and decided its time to start researching options for front end. i have looked at japanparts.com and found corazon (sorry if i spelt wrong) grill which i love. just wondering a few things. A) can i stick my subaru badge on the corazon grill as i prefer that look B) how hard is it to paint as i think it comes unpainted c) is it even worth the money coz auto 1 has mesh for 30 dollars? if DIY is the way to go can 1 of you informed people please point my in the right thread direction as to where i start and what to do. i apologise for my ignorance in advance.

Hey mate, i got my corazon grill from japan parts pre-painted so you should be able to do the same. This was definately the way to go as the colour was spot and as soon as you get it it's ready to fit, i know these grills are pricey but for the fit and finish they're worth every cent, i couldn't be happier with mine. Regarding your subaru badge im sure you could make it work, im quite sure others here have fitted one to their corazon, good luck

If you can afford it and don't mind aftermarket then Corazon is definitely the way to go. DIY is satisfying, and mine only cost me about $70 to do.. The badge can be attached, see if you can get your hands on a mesh grill badge holder otherwise some sort of adhesive works (I used sikaflex)

thanks for your feedback fellas, once i am confident in taking the badge off the stock grill (i know that sounds silly) without massacering it i think i will go aftermarket.

any idea how to start attacking the badge from stock grill? does it just pop off with a flat head or something.. iv had cars 'badged' before thats what derro's do these days isn't it? so ill just badge myself.. like a derro

The badge is held on with double sided tape. I used a small flat head screwdriver and wedged it between the grill and the badge. If you're having trouble try a hair dryer or heat gun with fishing line

I did a DIY grille and it's not as cheap as you might think if done properly.
You will use:
Fibreglass kit ($20)
body filler ($10)
Adhesive (epoxy/silicone $10)
Mesh ($30)
Plastic Primer ($15)
Paint (satin black) ($15)
Sand Paper, etc.

Plus many hours labour.

I did mine properly, sand, primer, paint, body filler etc and it was $70.. Bought a damaged second grill for $50 to work on so if I sell my stock one in perfect condition for more than $50 I'm even better off!

Did you read my post? Properly i.e. using the materials listed above. If you have all of those items already, then obviously cost will be significantly reduced.

thanks guys, i have since been doing lots of research on the DIY. i think it would be really satisfying doing it yourself. just thought i would say i found the walkthrough for the job. dont know how i missed it before when the board index clearly states "walkthroughs". anyway.. im learning. appreciate your input fella's

Yep, and the paint was in very poor condition but that didn't matter.. That's how I got it so cheap
