You think this will work? I am unsure I want to spend >$100, but I know you're going to convince me otherwise haha

I just purchased these: http://www.gadgetcity.com.au/oricom-pmr ... 45710e2455

I can't imagine having troubles in a car convoy, I can understand the need for 2W if I was in the outback or dense forest, but I don't think i'll be pushing the limits of these, plus I get two, so I'll have a practical use for it when i'm not on car cruises haha.

Don't banish me!

You're mistaken. This isn't a single file line of cars cruising down an open highway.
The unit has to work from inside your car (cuts the power heaps if you don't have an external antenna),
and we are driving up and down twisty mountain roads, so there's rarely line-of-sight between more than 2-3 cars at a time.

My experience is that those little 1W and 0.5W units don't work more than a few hundred metres in these conditions.

I went for a test run of the first section this morning, just to see what the traffic was like at that time of the morning.
Here's a first draft of the full cruise notes. I will hand out printouts of this on the day.

Wow Ric, your organisation is incredible!

Currently running 215/45/17 Toyo Teo Plus and 215/50/16 well worn RE001's. If i cant find a new set of wheels by sunday, what are people thoughts on running the current combo? Will the rolling diameter between 45/R17 and 50/R16 cause concerns for the centre diff? Super keen to come! The other two 16" wheels have un roadworthy tyres :( Otherwise I would just run them.

That's only a 0.6% difference, so not a lot.
I have a set of wheels with 215/45/17 RE050As you could borrow for the day. The tread on them is still (just) legal . :)
