Retrofitting Steering Wheel & Mcintosh Stereo

Postby PSISUBI » Tue Feb 12, 2013 2:39 pm

Hello All,

I was wanting to know if anyone here had retrofitted a later model Macintosh headunit (07 onwards I think) and the steering wheel that has the audio controls into an 06 Liberty ? I have seen some photos and it looks as though the A/C dual zone climate control and the stereo HU are one device but am not 100% sure. Am also wanting to connect my Iphone to the headunit as well to play music.

If anyone can help here that would be appreciated, as I really would like the steering wheel with the audio controls in my car.

Cheers

Brett.

I would be happy with just the steering wheel installed and mated with the 06 Mcintosh head unit, but would prefer both.....

I tried unsuccessfully to retrofit fit the steering wheel from an 07 Gtb into my 04 GT

The reason it didn't work was the actual boss kit / steering reel needed to be changed and the wiring harnesses that plug into these are different between the two models

It is possible - but would require splicing and rewiring which I couldn't be assed doing at the time

The 07 plus steering wheel is also larger, heavier and bulkier than the 04. The main reason i wanted to do this was for the shift paddles and the steering wheel volume controls

May attempt again when I get my car back and if I do I will do a full write up

That would be good Mick, but I take interest in your point about the wheel itself being larger (am assuming diameter), bulkier and heavier too.
