what do I need for a basic turbo install?

I have a 2007 2.5L NA liberty and was thinking about installing a turbo incl. intercooler and exhaust.
Can someone point me in the right direction please

We'll need some more info.
Will you do the work yourself?
What sort of power are you chasing?
Brand new parts or second hand?
How much money are you willing to throw at it? It may be more cost effective to buy a GT.

Its not a small job. Turbo, cooler, new exhaust I'd imagine, you'd need a tune for the ECU, piping for the intercooler etc.
Then you've got the little things, injectors would be a different size I'd guess between NA and turbo, etc etc. Lots of little things to think about.

No, I'll take it to a mechanic. Brand new parts, wouldn't want to spend more than about $4000

$4k would not get it done I'd imagine.
There are a lot of supercharged 2.5 conversions on here, I'd presume there's a reason they went the superchargers over a turbo.

Depending on the condition of your '07, it would probably be more cost effective to bank the $4k, sell the NA and buy a turbo.

Why exactly do you want a turbo? Supercharging has proven to be a reliable and powerful method of adding power to the car (Stage 1 Raptor is similar power to a stock WRX, Stage 2 Raptor puts you up in stock STi territory) and doesn't hit you anywhere near as badly on the hip pocket in the insurance department as a turbo car would.

Supercharging for my 2.5i would add about $150 to my annual premium (as queried a few months ago) - a good $400 or so cheaper than insuring a factory turbo Subaru (if you're a younger driver, then your savings will be even bigger - you'd recoup the cost of the SC install over the next handful of years in savings on insurance).

theres a fair bit of work to go into putting a turbo on..

new ecu, compression ratios in the engines and not your ordinary mechanic would do it as to much work would be involved (the response your would get i would imagine) you would need to take it to a tuner/workshop

PS: Doing a turbo engine conversion will also require a brake upgrade to match 07 LGT plus need an engineers certificate depending on where you live.

Don't forget looms for boost control etc. different air flow meter and map sensors, all sorts.

To get away with it for 4k you would need to sell the car and buy a GT. Also it would be well over 20 hours labour time. I'd say about 40, which would include all the wiring, tune, engine modifications or engine swap etc.

I said 20+ hours as I has my engine And wiring swapped over in 12 to find out the gearbox didnt bolt in. But everything was swapped and plugged in even the complete interior loom with air bag sensors.

I could do a full conversion in a my07 as long as I came with the 5eat in under 7 days.

So could I. Infact I did more in depth work on mine in 7 days. But I'm allowing say 10hours dyno time plus time for setbacks. Dyno time is so high because I've never heard of a single cam turbo gen 4. They won't have a map they can load and tweak. It'll need to be all started from scratch.
