Re: The E85 Thread

Hi folks

Just wondering what the feeling would be about converting an EJ208 TT (MY00 JDM GTB) to E85? I havent been able to find ANY info on this at all (possibly for a very good reason). I know the standard ecu is not tunable on this model, so I would be looking at an aftermarket alternative as well as the normal fuel system upgrades that would be required. I'm assuming there would be more required to get the fuel system up to scratch (being 440cc sidefeeds standard - I think)?

I know the common upgrade to this setup is to go single turbo and that is currently my medium-term intention, but just thought this might be a different alternative to getting a few more kws out of the twin setup. The standard VF26/28 turbos seem to have reasonable flow and good top end out of interest.

I might be barking up completely the wrong tree, but though I'd just suss it out anyway. What do you think?

I know availability is the primary issue for most here too, but we'll leave that aside for the time being.

Thanks
Josh

Had a question....

I have an e-flex pump about 25kms from my house...it's abit far for me...(future potential fuel)
But I have a fairly large united station down the road with prem 100. My question is - "has anybody emailed or spoke to fuel companies about putting e85 pumps in. Also how do they know where to put the pumps, at certain stations.

Thanks ahead :)

I've spoken to Caltex, they do it based on supply and demand, but they have no plans to bring out any other pumps in the near future in NSW anyways.

Here in melbourne/VIC speaking to different servos and emailing united

1. Works out via demand for E85 in each area and the volume amount the pumps are flowing, It seems they are continously adding more and more E85 pumps....well here in VIC :)

2. Caltex - seems like they are pulling out of the e85 race..thats the inside word I got from someone working at holden, the next line up of holden cars will no longer be eflex based

3. Biggest reason is they had contract with holden to make X amount of sales with eflex based commodores, but as you know it hasnt taken off or been marketed properly from both sides of business...

4. Another reason is united is dominating in sales Vs caltex

5. Another side line reason is I believe these fuel companies get discounts and subidies for being and refining E based fuels.

I really wish we had more United stations in NSW let alone ones that stock E85, it's a little ridiculous!

I asked Caltex about plans to shelve eflex and they denied it and said its selling well where available

I know the Casula one is working flat out and is very busy

I have a feeling one the Kirrawee one is kept so busy because all the E85 users fill up there before going through the Royal National Park

Is that just referencing E10 fuel in regards to 91?

P100 is considered an E10 fuel. Going by that site it's all E10 fuels. It doesn't seem to differentiate on RON.

Well it's true. If the average consumer was using that website to decide whether they could run E85 in the same model car as yours it would be correct. However, you have upgraded your fuel system and had your ECU tune modified to suit.

But what would be the difference between a prefl GT and postfl GT running stock roms and stock mechanically, and using United 100? Why is it okay for the post facelift but not the pre? Do they run a bit leaner or something?
