Headlights not blue?

Postby drndrn » Thu Apr 10, 2008 1:44 pm

Hey guys,

I just put in a set of Phillips Crystal Vision about 15mins ago, and I was expecting a bright white/blue light.. Which is what I got... From my fogs.. But my low beams still seem to have a yellow tinge, and I think this may be because of the projector thingo.. That big round bulb that covers the actual light bulb.

Can anyone shed some light? (no pun intended :D)

darren.

I've tried every superwhite/HID looking halogen bulb imagineable, but you will never get it white/blue from projectors. It'll come close, but there's always going to be a tinge of yellow in there. And even if you don't see, if you move up and down in front of the light you'll see it at different angles.

I've wasted a lot of time and money trying out different brands and some overheating because they were cheapie brands. But with the cheap price of HID conversion kits now ($100 - $250), there's no excuse not to get genuine HID.

So save your money and get a HID kit.

No, due to the way halogen produces the light, no matter how white/blue your globes are, they will still be yellow-based light, through blue lens (which eats light, by the way, resulting in less light on the road).

The yellow through the projector is then caused by the light coming through the projector, and being cast through the light cutoff frequencies - that's why the top fringe is blue-purple, and the light is white.

What's your budget? The good stuff will cost you $130 for LED fogs and $70 for LED parkers. For those on a budget, $25 for LED fogs and $5 for LED parkers.

I sell BJ Union 5200K halogen globes, which should match reasonably well with your HIDs. They are $50 a pair.

Haha! I use the same technique when in need of a new TV. "Oh no! My foot accidentally went through the TV screen .... 3 times! Now I'm forced to get that 50" hi-def plasma!"
