Turbo inlet

Postby Boostaddict » Sat Jan 26, 2013 12:10 pm

Hey guys

Thinking I'm going to get a turbo inlet pipe. Just wondering if its worth going to the Perrin 3" or go the other 2.4/2.5" ones like jacks gtb's selling?? For the sake of $50 I can get either .

I have a standard turbo and will until it dies. But would the bigger 3" inlet be any better then the smaller on the standard pee sized turbo??? I'm also thinking that the 3" one is gunna be a bastard to install whereas the smaller one might actually be not too bad due to size.

Thoughts and experiences please.

Thanks

Daniel

a 3" inlet pipe will not fit your standard stock turbo from memory

Oh the horror! Brings back bad memories. Luckily Justin was able to fit it!
And yes as Justin has said, you have to use the stock size. So it's probably not really worth the effort. But it looks cool :D

So the perrin ones say they are a direct fit, same as jacks gtb's one to the stock turbo's!!!! Mmmhhh

I have heard they are a pain in ass to fit but there has to be some performance and noise benefits.!???

Ive got my fmic going back on soon and was gunna put one of these on as well. Just want to maximise the std turbo !!

If you want it just go for it! not a huge expense. I have the Perrin after-MAF and turbo inlet pipes on my stock turbo. Didn't notice any noise difference or performance gains but I was untuned at the time.

Turbo inlet

Postby jaydece » Sat Jan 26, 2013 8:26 pm

Yes....pain in the ass but me and Kieran got there eventually...phew...

to do the inlet pipe alone I believe is a waste of time, effort and $$$ and yes it is a pain to fit ( especially when you try to fit it with the manifolds and everything on )

unless you have other mods to assist the inlet pipe? then it will be worth it followed by a proper retune

Well i already have the hyper flow pod, fmic and exhaust so I thought this was the missing link. It has been tuned by the KIDO himself but will obviously need to be done again after.

The Perrin, avo or the Kobe ?? That's the question?? Same same or not??

It's a silicon piping all of which is the same diameter at the turbo end regardless of manufacturer.
I doubt there is any comparison research available between the different products, because it would be a waste of time to do.

I like the Perrin because it comes in black and just looks nice and is a quality, sturdy product.

What BOV are you running? Apparently the stock one can bleed so it's a worthwhile upgrade changing that. I just installed my Turbosmart Kompact (plumback) today as was recommended by Matt himself.

I too am in the position of trying to maximise the stock turbo, so I have very similar mods to you plus a few others. Minus the FMIC of course :)

Awesome then you understand where I'm coming from. The misses doesn't know about car stuff and I can get away with all this add on stuff. Once I start talking different turbo's she knows I'm going too far ( in her mind anyway )

Honestly all the different manufactures probably get it from the same place anyway. And they are all within that $210-250 mark. I like the idea of AVO as that is my fmic, but it def wasn't a "bolt on" kit. So I don't want to be stuck half way through changing the inlet pipe and be farked cause it won't fit and have to go back to stock. So probably leaning towards Perrin as well . But I did notice in your pics Kieran that yours is blue, but you mention black above????

Also what's the compact blow off like?? Notice any change in boost holding/leaking??

Wonder if its a good idea to get the 3" inlet version as it has a more constant 3" section and running a reducer on the end???

But then your after-maf is still going to be 2.5" isn't it? or what size is your pod filter thing. I'm still running the stock air box as I hate pod filter sounds :P

You will still be limited by the 2.5" turbine inlet though, but I guess the extra space in the inlet could only help for air on demand. But hey I know nothing so I'm just guessing :assassin:

When you look at the pics of these things they are all the same and it only changes when you get to the turbo inlet. I might have a chat to avo about it.

Thanks Kieran , sometimes 2 people that know a little can make some sense!! Hahaha

Get the pro speed racing one. Michael south recommends this because the perrin holes are too small and shit. Getting mine fitted when I do my turbo conversion so can't comment about performance yet.
