I just burnt the V18 C2 for a Gen4 2009 SatNav and the map comes up scrambled and pixellated. I may have misread a previous post suggesting C2 for 2009+ .. I guess that means 2009+ GEN5 ?
Found the C1 image just it looks to be spread across multiple RAR files with an .EXE header RAR, so need to find a windows machine.

Old school SatNav are the big let down with this era of car! Those who thought Apple Maps were bad should experience these archaic systems!!! Bring on Internet based updating systems...

Yeh, from what i udnerstand, C2 is for Gen5+ only. Will not work on Gen4-.
And yes, its about 7 different RAR files, which you extract simultaneously to reveal a single .iso file which can be burnt.

Your using Mac?

Mac's are fine with RAR Files if u use Mr Zipper or SmartZipper Pro etc. There are plenty of unpacking systems that cover this off. Just search rar mac.

So am installing VMware so I can run it in Windows. Just lazy :)

The factory image couldn't be that big with the fact that they fit on a 4.7GB DVD when directly copied. Not sure where the 5.6GB come from?

I created an .CDR DVD Master image using Disk Utility on the Mac, and it's 5.63GB, hence it won't let me re-burn it to single layer DVD.

These are the links i used, and it definitely works.

I downloaded these and burned them to a TDK DVD-R and when i put it in the car it did not work ( I have an 07 Forester which should be the C1 version according to the whereis website). It said 'Installed disc not a Map data disc' I burnt the .ISO which was 3.96GB and the MDS file(5kb). Should I have just burnt the .ISO?? What have i done wrong, lol?

How did you burn the .iso?

You cant just stick it into your dvd drive, and let it burn, or it will burn the iso as a data file. You need it to burn as an image file.

Use a program like MagicISO. Burn the iso onto the disk through magic iso, and forget the MDS file.

Whereis V18 out

I read on another GPS forum that the version 18 c1 is a fake. It's still a v17 just changed the label

if you open up the VERSION.TXT on the V18 C1 it says

COMMENT=ver.R18_V7;

i also remember reading that the V18 maps are identical to V17 and that Whereis are just ripping you off, but this is unconfirmed...

The links i provided are from a GPS website which listed it as the real V18C1. They also had links to the fake C1, as well as C2. So as far as i know, this is the real C1.

Thanks Prezza, just as you suggested I had just burned a data disk... Any it's all good the disc takes a bit longer to be recognised as a map data disc in the car but it picks up after about 25 seconds. It displays the version as v18. So all good thanks to everyone who posted links.
