Swaybar upgrades - what do I need?

So are the rear HD mounts an absolute neccesity on a 2006 Liberty SpecB?

If you only drive and corner hard occasionally, probably not. If you get under and look at how flimsy the factory rear mount is, you should definitely consider upgraded mounts if you drive the twisties on a regular basis or do track work.

Anyone else here just done the rear bar, mounts and LCA's? Thoughts on the improvement over stock? Does it get rid of the understeer?

I've done my front and rear swaybars - makes a helluva difference. You will still understeer if you enter a turn too hot, but when properly entered (wash off some straight-line speed, accelerate into the turn), you can carry more speed through the turn than stock swaybars because your lateral body roll has been reduced, allowing the inside wheels to do more work.

The other big benefit of thicker swaybars is that your tyres wear far more evenly rather than the shoulders doing all the grip work.

After sticking my head under the bum of my wagon and having a look at the existing mounts I would definitely recommend 're-enforcement in the AVO style upgrade. They look piss weak. Tbh though I don't think they are worth $135. You could have a set made for far less at any half decent machine shop. I'm going to make my own.

I was just considering making my own also like the Cusco ones. Just get a flat piece of mild steel 5mm thick, cut it, drill holes. Done. Probably for $10.

The Avo style ones would be better because they also bolt to the subframe to give much more strength. The only problem with the cusco ones is while they would stop most of the flex in the standard mount, you are still left with the shitty little weld to hold it all on.

When you say its bolted to the subframe, is that the massive bolt that goes through the circular thing on the AVO mount?

If so, how do you get 2 pieces of steel like that at 90deg, without welding? Bending steel that thick would be fairly hard also.

Yeah its that big bolt. You will get far more strength by having it secured like that. it is bent. You can do the same thing with some applied heat. the only thing welded on is that bit of machined tube.
