Plasti Dip Help..

Postby Jayraddd » Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:26 pm

Hey guys, I'm wanted to do some Plasti Dipping with a Gunmetal Grey colour.. found where to get a decent price per can too.

Just wondering if anyone has Plasti Dipped their Rims, and how the coat holds up after a long peroid ??

I want to dip my stock grey/chrome grill with the Gunmetal Grey plus I'm also considering dipping the stock 17" alloys, just for a nice look until new Rims are purchased.

Just do the grille first, to test how durable it is.

I've looked into a far bit, once its cured its pretty durable. Considering people get there whole car done I guess it has to been lol.

Yea I guess you can call it paint.. its like rubber based. You can get it spray cans. You can paint stuff and also peel it back off leaving the original surface perfect. Best way is to Youtube it and you'll see it in action.

But yea, think I might just buy one can and try the Grill then go from there.. bonus is though if I dont like it I can remove it ! Pretty amazing stuff.

I Plasti Dipped my wheels black before I painted them properly. They lasted a whole 2 months before I couldn't stand to look at them anymore. In my opinion the finish just looks dirty all them time even after they are cleaned. It is durable but after a while brake dust starts to stain it.

It is a good temporary solution but if you are looking to colour your wheels permanently I would suggest getting them professionally painted.

this.
I've plasti dipped a lot of things on my car. front bar & grill have gone great. wheels are awful and interior doesn't withstand use
Apparently i've never been on live television before

Ive plasti dipped the wheels on my gen 2 rx and it came out really well. only thing i cold suggest is do at least 4 to 5 coats each wheel! may seem like a lot but in the long run they remain in good condition for longer. the first time i sprayed mine i had to respray the wheels after 2 months because of peeling and uneven patches. Aslo dont touch your wheels with degreaser!

goodluck !

Did my Rims a while ago, worked out well, until I needed new tyres and the dicks peeled of the plasti dip with the tyre fitting machine, peeling off was a bitch, going to buy black rims next!

How did this go mate? I'm interested in doing my wheels in gunmetal grey too. How many cans you use? Also were you happy with the colour?

I used 3 cans of plasti dip
Took wheels off
Cleaned wheels and tyres
added 1 light coat
2nd heavier coat
3rd coat
then a final 4th coat.
It looked great for a day, then I when on a wet dirt road on a business trip, they went Goldy brown but after a wash they held up, but once you get a small nick in the paint, they start to look bad and when the tyres got changed it was terrible.
