subaru sat nav or after market ?

Postby bretto87 » Sun Jan 06, 2013 5:46 pm

Looking to put the subaru sat nav in my car if i can find one, just interested in finding out if it would be better to just get an after market one instead.
Dont really know where to look for the subaru one as i have looked on here, ebay and car sales but cant seem to find them, maybe i need the model number of the sat nav which could help..
Any help or suggestions on what would be best and cheapest would be great, dont really want to spend over 1k if i can help it .... Thankz

I would say after market as will be better quality both in sound and Map if you can get the ones that have Garmin Maps etc.

The stock one works well but sound is limited. GPS is ok but not as good as my Garmin and doesn't say the Names of streets etc.

Current UBD street directory for $30 and memorize where you have to go and pocket the other $970

Definitely aftermarket imho... Spoken street names, speed indication, POI's, options and more options depending on how much you want to spend. A lot of them you can take out of the car and use them in tourist / pedestrian mode if that's useful to you.

One of the big pluses are lifetime map updates on particular models, even my $130 (Xmas special) garmin.

My cousins has a lib with the Factory GPS, and it's slow, being DVD based, poor map graphics, but perfectly functional, mind.. Nice integration with the trip/car computer too which you won't get with an aftermarket.
I do like the big display tho, and it's integration with the car itself. Not having cable draped across the dash, dimmable with the dash lights, it's not a break in magnet.

You do lose the dash cubby tho... That will undoubtedly be your most difficult decision. Good luck
