Broke the door lock (lol)

Postby Joshy » Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:52 pm

Hey all,

So I was fiddling around, and I broke a piece inside the locking part of the door, those who have opened up the door and taken off the trim might know what I am talking about.

So near the chrome handle you pull to open the door, in that part there are 2 cables, the first being the one for the handle, and the second for the little lock, now they have a collar sort of to help with the cable pulling, much like on a bike break (see pic below)

Pic: http://speedcap.net/sharing/files/60/0a ... cf81f8.png

I snapped this piece, and I have no idea where to even begin looking for a new one.

EDIT!!

I found a picture of the piece, dont view my fail drawing lol

Image

Any ideas?

You could just glue the collar to whats left.

Is it the sleeve that's broken or the recess it sits in?

Why don't you drill a couple of holes either side of the recess big enough to fit some small cable ties through and cable tie the sleeve into place???

Its the sleeve,

I just thaught now I can hack something up to make it work, maybe melt the rest of the sleve and make it wider then the hole, its the knob bit on the end that snapped off.

What a pain, thaught the glue worked, now I need to rip the whole panel off again lol

Took it off again today and tried a few things that dont seem to work, due to the design I dont really have a place to tether the white part.

Anyone know where to get the entire lock cable? looks like the plastic bit is solid on there

The whole end of the cable is stuffed, the issue with gluing the collar back on is the cable might also get stuck again, its easier to just buy a new lock cable as this one is dead.

Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Aha it's all good mate. If you cover postage (unless its only a few stamps, I don't mind that) consider it yours if I have it. I'm pretty sure it's still on there.

If you have it that would be awesome!

I noticed you have LED's on your to-do list but its in red!

Ill send you 5 Festoon LED bulbs, two for maps, two for doors, and one for the dome light, ones here:

viewtopic.php?f=68&t=20008

The dome ill send is a bit different ;)

If you have it ill send the lights + stamps in the post, if you don't have them ill send you some anyway because of your offer, oh and a fellow first car lib owner ;)

Hey Mick,

I tried with some ties to thether it to the unit but it keeps slipping through, I glued it in place without luck too.

If I can get one from a wrecker that would be sweet, or Kody may have a spare one, if not I think I just need to bite the bullet and get a new one, and learn my lesson ;)

Haha thanks mate but those LED's are worth a lot.
I'd feel guilty :/
Ill cover postage for the plastic bit and send some money your way for the LED's and we'll call it even?
I'm 90% sure it has at least one, as I said, I will get home and check the moment I walk through the door and drive to the post office that afternoon, sorry for making you wait so long but I'm on holidays
