does that mean your requirement for thicker oil is masking an issue with your engine?
i just think its strange to throw a CEL because of the grade of oil...

worked for me no problems using avast......you need to check your viscosity ratings on your internet security settings

I think the issue is the pressurisation created by the SC Kit in an NA engine (not originally designed for pressure). Not sure of the details as to why or the full technical explanation other than a lighter oil may be moved away (by pressure) from places where it is needed. Our AVCS is hydraulic (assuming here that it uses the engine oil) in order to adjust the phasing of the intake and exhaust valve timing.
Could be masking something, but I will deal with that when it happens. In the meantime, the old girl is happy with 5W40, so that's what I am feeding her.![]()
And I will still be using Redline until there is some wider harder evidence that indicates to the contrary.

You mentioned that your CEL came on during your trip on the way home? This is on the freeway while cruising? Or were you taking a spirited way home with some twisties and bends?
Oil shouldn't be "moving away" that far while cruising home on the freeway right?
Oil pump having issues throwing thinner oil around maybe? (just trying to get a better understanding here, that's all).
Any other thoughts anyone?

A super quick search just on our forum. Kieran's link seems okay to continue to. Chrome was just being a bit weird.
Reading on the net some more and a conversation I've had with a few mechanics, thicker oil helps mask issues and noise on higher km engines.
I guess your regular oil that you have been using has a higher shear point at that viscosity vs the castrol 5-30 that subaru uses.

The ECU has a self learning memory in an RAM memory area close to the FLKC learnt parameters region etc. So the oil pressure table has a 15% variable on Marks ECU(yep, just checked the tune in stock form and modified form, both idenitcal) so it would make sense that IF the oil was changed, it might take the ECU a hundred kilometres or so to self learn the new oil control valve duty cycle on the VVL solenoid.
