Does Modding Void Warranty? Reply 1, 2 or 3.

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

Modding Liberty still under warranty?

(1) Don't care, start modifying it anyway.

Does Modding Void Warranty? Reply 1, 2 or 3.

Postby jACE » Tue Apr 01, 2008 8:49 pm

This goes out to all those guys who mod their Lib as soon as they buy it!

I was speaking to one of the dudes at the dealership the other week, and got talking about what the warranty on the Liberty's allow in regards to lowering (modifying) your car. Then he just wandered off talking about all the products STi supply without voiding the warranty.

It then got me thinking....what do all you guys do when you've bought a recent Liberty (06-08) and begin to modify it? Do you: (1) Don't care, start modifying it anyway, (2) Wait until the warranty runs out before modifying it, or (3) Buy and add to your car only STi products that will not void the warranty?

Your thoughts would be handy or just reply 1,2 or 3.

Having had an engine replaced under warranty, I'm damn glad there was no question I'd caused the problem with a MOD... :)

Yes, mine is stock as well. Modifications while a car is under warranty is morally wrong.

modding

Postby matty_et » Tue Apr 01, 2008 11:53 pm

dont quote me on this as it could have just been a good subaru service place i went through, but i imagine its the same deal across them all. i was told that modding will only affect the warrenty if the mod you have done played a vital role in whatever has gone wrong eg. if you change your wheels and have a wheels bearing go on you...your not covered, if you do your exhaust and burn out a valve...your not covered. some of the mods i have is a cat back exhaust and after market wheels and i had the dual mass flywheel replaced under warrenty with no dramas.

I'm probably between 1 & 2, I'm happy to do some mods like wheels & suspension, but will hold back on mods that affect the warranty on the engine.
I got the extended 2 year warranty that now i wonder if it was such a great idea :( what what to do???? :? :?

I'm with you also. Non STi products will not void your warranty as long as it's not going to affect whatever breaks.

I would choose 3, but they don't need to be STi products.
