need some help want to change my Face Plate for the stereo so i can put in a bluetooth headset system, but cannot find anywhere to get the correct Face plate from.

Hi all,

After talking to two or three installers here in Canberra, all three of the main car audio places get their subaru stuff from a bloke up in Queensland. I gather he orders it in from Japan, but not 100% sure.

Anyway... Fingers crossed the attached pic works, I got a new fascia for my 2006 STI for about $220 including postage to Canberra.

Will try to take a few more pix in dayight tomorrow if I get time, but I've installed a Pioneer blue tooth mp3 type single din, got a universal pocket below it, pulled out the original mcintosh and amp, and have put in a Rockford Fosgate 300:1 with a 12" Eclipse sub I got online. Installed the sub in the boot with a custom fibreglass box and I now have a very awesome system

p.s, anyone want to buy a Mcintosh 6 stack in dash plus amp (no wires) for $150? (plus postage) I've put it up on gumtree for $175, but $150 here.

Fingers crossed my uploading picture skills have improved today..... Apols for the pic quality, trying to save it in a format that dropped below the apparent 256kb limit has only allowed me to post a v low res version.

As you can see, the fascia is a slightly different colour than the OEM panel, but we're talking dark grey vs black, so it's no real big issue, especially when you consider the fascia surrounding the McIntosh OEM was even further from a match.

A shame the head unit I got only came with blue ilumination, but really not the end of the world.

So did you only get the fascial around the headunit and pocket or did it include a new set of heater controls?

Because for those that do not have the pre-facelift McIntosh, the fascia kit required comes with new heater controls, hence the $400 price tag.

The prefacelift McIntosh was unique to the Gen4 in the sense that the headunit was split from the heater controls from factory. As opposed to the rest of the lineup that headunit + heater controls was 1 piece.

All I got was the fascia around the head unit. Heater/AC controls are the existing ones that were in the car.

I initially thought that the pocket was going to come with it, but alas, just the fascia - the pocket is a universal one that my installer had on hand. Audio Express were going to track one down for me, and actually ordered a forrester one with a flap on the front in from Japan, but I thought the silver flap would look out of place so I just went for a universal one in the end.

My o5 Outback was single zone AC, and it had the audio and climate control integrated in one unit, and I got the split facia for double din from AVOJapan - $450 landed. Going from Mcintoss to std HU, you are going to need an adapter cable for the audio out to either the Mc amp inputs (if your HU can supply the right signals), or direct to the speaker connectors - which is how I have done it.

Confirmed! Chris from AudioExpress knows his stuff.

He also said that a new amp is required to connect a new head unit to the existing Liberty speaker system, as the existing amp cannot be reused. I'm looking to keep the costs low, so he recommended a Hertz HCP5D at about $600. This is turning in to a costly little project, so I may just go with the anycarlink option instead
