Achilles Tyres

Looking for some affordable but decent tyres for my new 18" rims, talking to Option 1 they suggested Achilles ATR Sport tyres.

I'd never heard of Achilles ATR so I did some googling and they seem to have mixed reviews, reports of failures at high speed but then reports of a well performing tyre at a great price.

Has anyone had Achilles tyres before, or had any experience with them?

Reading the website they sound like the greatest tyre ever made, but every manufacturer talks up their own tyre like that...

You do get what you pay for with tyres...
I opted to find slightly second hand name brand tyres on eBay and Gumtree.

Haven't tried this company myself but I definitely will when my current treads die. Looks nice and cheap for quality treads. Not sure how much the local tyre shops will like it though.

I've got them - rate them pretty good in the dry, pretty average in the wet.
I got them because they where cheap ($100 fitted per tyre for 235/40/18), high tread wear (400) and read that they stretched well (9.5" rim).

I'd get either these again or people seem to be moving towards "Kinforest" which are the same sort of tyre (price, wear etc).

Interesting, have you had the Kumho KU31 before? If so how do they compare, old mate at Option 1 said that he preferred the Achilles over the KU31

iv had these achillies tyres before on my old 08 NA suby and i found they went pretty well for a daily driver with the occasional squirt!!

and im currently running the kumhos on my spec b atm, and although they the kumhos are better they are i think 50-100 i THINK dearer then the achillies..


i personally would pay the extra but like stated before you get what u pay for

I agree Achilles tyres were ok on dry roads. Kumho Ku31 for me was better on wet roads but wore out sooner than I expected. I am currently trying on Continental SC 3's..so far so good in both wet and dry and lasting longer than KU 31 with my driving style.

I have run both and for the value of the Achilles I would buy them again. The ku 31 ones are good but I don't think they are worth extra money above the Achilles. Personal opion I drive hard every day and the Achilles lived longer and I think out performed in the dry. But came close in the wet.
