Help with key/transponder

Guys when I purchased my Gen 3 it only came with one key however the rubber cover for the Transponder is taped together heavily, just wondering if I have to pay big bucks from Subaru to get a new housing or is it best to buy a new Central locking and alarm for my car, any help please as I have no spare transponder/key, Thanks in advanced, Sandy

Have you tried eBay for replacement housing?

I think you will find that the transponder is embedded into that plastic and a new key needs you to donate a kidney first.

Just kidding about your kidney, but a new key and recoding is still big $'s.

I would check ebay for a new replacement housing, or even sites like dealextreme.com I ordered a replacement key case, note that they take a long time to land here, last few orders from DX have taken over a month.

You should be able to find new keys on eBay for a decent price. Stay away from Subaru unless you want to be bent over. What set of keys do you have? Is the remote separate from the key? Or is key/remote all one unit? I've only seen the 'all in one' units on eBay and am unaware if the all in one's can still be programmed to work with the separate remote/key.

Be extremely wary of the eBay keys with Transponder & Remote Access, the ones from the USA have different PCB board inside and operate on a different frequency to ours.

I have been down this road with my 2003 Forester and I'm still searching for a remote access PCB, I even bought a 2nd hand key from a wrecker here in Australia, it too (PCB) is a non goer.
