Your satnav shares many features with the Impreza/Forester model. I've posted more information about the latter here (which is where I posted that annotated picture you found).

Several years back, Subaru released their iPod Interface accessory. That kit has a "black box" which connects to the HU's 20-pin expansion bus socket and provides an iPod dock connector (which you run into your armrest center console). The kit was only compatible with certain OEM HUs (I think only Impreza and Forester, and only ones with a "SAT" button for the optional satellite radio tuner accessory).

Around 2010, Subaru discontinued the iPod kit in favor of the newer "Media Hub" accessory. The latter is similar to the iPod kit, except it adds a USB socket next to your center console aux. It works with an iPod or iPhone (via a USB-to-iPod cable), or a USB flashdrive containing MP3 files.

You can see more information about both accessories on Subaru's site here..

Installation instructions on Subaru's TechInfo site: http://techinfo.subaru.com/search/index.html

(select Publication Type "Accessory Installation Guide" and filter by a keyword such as "iPod").

I'm not sure which (if any) AUDM models those kits will work with. Possibly none of the satnavs. Search the various Australian Subaru forums and you'll find posts from a few people who have tried.

You definitely can add an aux audio jack to connect your iPod (or any MP3 player) that way. No remote control from the HU, but still better than nothing.

Ahhh thanks. I've googled and read everything I can find on the topic (your posts tend to go whooshing over my head but I hang in there) and I've not seen or heard of anyone who's managed to incorporate direct iPod control with an Australian MY08 limited edition satnav Liberty.

I think I'm going to end up chopping up my Apple AV Composite cable and running that to the centre console. No direct control but video out should impress my mate (I've got his car for the weekend).

Massive thinks to all the posts in here and various other threads on the internet, I've already managed to get the aux enable override happening and threaded the Apple connection back through to the centre console hole. Tomorrow I will chop up the audio L-R and video ends of the Apple cable and try to wire them into the harness.

Incidentally, what is the best way of adding wires to the existing harness? I don't seem to be able to split the plastic shell...

Did he mean FZDA07MRHF2 by the way?

All done! I ended up buying cheap female RCA sockets (with short cables) from JayCar and wiring those into the harness and connecting the Apple cable to those (so I didn't butcher the apple cable). I also wired up a little 12v USB charger (behind the dash) and plugged the Apple USB into it directly http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... rm=KEYWORD

So the only thing that is visible is the Apple connector coming out of the centre console.

I could not get those to go all the way into the harness (pushing wire in from the back). I ended up just pushing the wire in till copper showed at the plug. Most of the wires kind of 'jammed' in and for the loose ones I added a layer of heatshrink so they were nice and snug in the plastic.

Not quite foolproof but hopefully will hold on for however many years they need to.

Thanks for all the help. It's nice to have a single connector for charging, audio out and video out. Tested out YouTube and it looks great! Oh, also did the park brake mod so everything's always accessible.

OK this worked for awhile but now apparently things have come loose (duh I guess) and the sound isn't so great so I'll need to actually get these wires properly into the harness.

I still have these pins from jaycar but no idea how to get them into their respective slots.

Is there an idiot's guide around? Or does someone mind posting a quick bit of advice? I'm a bit annoyed at myself for not 'doing it right' the first time but I thought it would last at least a few years... :(

EDIT: I just realised that scottb721 is referring to a different head unit (we have the limited edition satnav one). Still the same pins? Or is this why I'm having problems?

Yep also looking to find out what the correct pins are for the 24-pin connector.
