My names Marty, I am originally from the UK near London but moved to Aus (WA) last year as my wife is Aussie (I got in the easy way.... I think
I am a technician by trade - I have worked on many things over the years including vehicles mainly in the auto electrics area particularly commercial vehicles. I have air con knowledge also and pretty strong mechanical background too but my real strength is the electronics and technical stuff.
When I first arrived in Oz I had a scout around for what kind of cars were available, and at the time I wasn't sure what work I would be doing or exactly what my budget would be so I was thinking around 15k. When I was in a position to seriously look for a new car this quickly went up once I spotted the Subaru Liberty's on the market. As soon as I saw this model I got that little feeling of excitement as I gazed at countless pictures. Then I read the specs and I slipped into fantasy land imaging how great a turbo charged 2.5l subaru lump would feel... so I went to find out and test drove one that was in my price range. From that point onwards I knew I would own one... I tried a Mazda MPS before hand and it is no comparison imo.
In the UK I had a few cars to drive, but the first one I bought and owned myself was my baby there... It is not much when you compare I guess but it was a fantastic car. It was a Seat Leon FR TDi 2004, which has bucket loads of torque and was so economic with regards to power / performance compared to other petrol performance motors it was enough to make those gas guzzlers sick haha. Anyway things are a little different here and I am more than happy to roll with a performance petrol engine and with this car, the torque is still very much there... even more so!
After I settle into the car a bit I will iron out a few imperfections and then I will start looking at customisations. I am not one for major power gain mods, more so mods to make it more individual and suited to how I like to drive. Things like sound system, a few styling bits, one or two engine tweaks and maybe uprating the suspension and brakes for example. Its already got a ceramic custom dump pipe and some nice tints and LED side lights fitted by the previous owner. I will do more research and see what things I can do in the coming years coz I plan to keep this car for as long as possible.
So without writing my life story in one post... that's a bit about me and where I come from and I am looking forward to sharing info and my love of Liberty's with you peeps in the future.
Cheers all
Marty
