Exhaust/Mufflers for 3RB - other questions

Good thread! I'm just going through the same process with our '08 3.0R-B wagon and am trying to work out which parts I need to get what I'm after.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Xforce SS catback from Best Mufflers, as the price is pretty hard to go past and I also like the twin 4" tips instead of some of the quad tip designs

I'd also like to ditch the stock system from after the headers to the cats, but am trying to get my head around exactly what's needed there and if anyone stocks anything that you can put together off the shelf. I just can't justify the cost of replacing the headers at this stage (it's my wife's daily ), so thought I'd go with a headers-back system if that makes sense

Maybe I should just get the Xforce cat back, take it to an exhaust shop and get them to fabricate the bits forward of the cat.

What's the max diameter you'd use for the piping from the headers to the cat back system on a H6? 2.25"-2.5"?

If I'm replacing or deleting any cats from the stock system, are there any issues with ECU warning lights or anything? Sounds like as long as you keep the 2 front cats after the headers and plumb back in the sensors, it should be OK?

I had the engine light come on about a week after after putting on 100cpsi cats. Edward from XRT changed the ROM for me to get rid of the problem. Have a look at the thread "mods to do before tune".

update: I've since purchased a nice set of XForce Mufflers and they should be on their way today, reaching Sydney sometime this week.

Booked in to have them fitted this weekend. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Just about to pull the trigger on a system for our 2008 3.0R-B wagon. Looks like I can get exactly what I'm after from Best Mufflers, straight off the shelf and not have to spend too much

Can anyone confirm if this setup will be a straight bolt on, or will need modification? In particular, will the front Y pipe assembly bolt straight up to the stock cats?

Thanks mate. Just had a look at your thread though and you didn't get the front y-pipe assembly? That's the bit I'm mostly concerned about fitting up to the stock cats (just after the headers). Keen to make sure that will work before I jump in. I've asked Best Mufflers anyway.

I see the price has gone up for the catback section too Looks like you paid $440 + delivery. Now it's up to $495!

P.S. The catback alone sounds beefy on your car. Dunno if my wife is going to be all that impressed running the kids around in that, but I'll tell her it's safer to be heard as well as seen

The kit comes with a center piece, y pipe and the 2 mufflers

The Y pipe is what connects the center pipe to the muff




And thank you im really happy with the sound, it gives it a nice tone sounds even better in the higher rev's!

Yep that's at the back though mate. I'm talking about the y-pipe at the front The other y-pipe kit I listed earlier cleans up the front system after the 2 headers/cats and deletes the 3rd cat for more gains. I'm guessing you are still running the stock front assembly with 3 cats?

Got a response from Best Mufflers anyway and they said the front y-pipe assembly bolts up to the stock headers/cats no problems.

That doesnt sound right hmmm...

Have a look at the serial numbers on both links. the first link ($220) is just for the mid section and Y pipe, the second link ($495) is the same but with the mufflers included
They offer those two packages in case anyone wants to buy just the mid section and Y pipe, and wants to keep their stock mufflers/buy other aftermarket mufflers

They wouldn't offer a front y pipe that cleans it all up after the front cats because there are no flange's there to bolt any pipe work up to, you would have to weld some in

But on the subject of deleting the 3rd muffler, now would be a good time to get an exhaust shop to weld a 2 - 1 splitter

The only off the shelf solution to your problem would be to buy some Raptor headers and get an exhaust shop to make up the rest of the exhaust to join the headers and the cat back together

Now to decide on mild steel or stainless... Best Mufflers have both in stock, but the stainless is $200 dearer. That $200 could go towards tuning I guess
