Visiting OZ in December - advice on car rental?

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

Hey the latest Libertys are bigger right?

Just had a quick look and I can get a pickupfrom Melbourne, drop off in Mount Gambier for the time I want with a Liberty rental for £292...

Damage excess waiver is additional £85 - but someone said this might be covered in travel insurance - so that's worth checking 8)

Thanks for all the comments and advice - will be useful for finalising my decision

Can get a Falcon XR6 for the whole time of visit for not too bad a rate - will this be much bigger than the Liberty?

Thanks

Yep a falcon is a good bit bigger. Both the lib and xr6 will hold 4 adults no dramas but the lib will be struggling for power where the xr6 will be fine.

IMO i would be taking the xr6..... Better suited for a larger load. Its just a boat tho!!!
Not a Subaru...... Something MUCH better

NOPE..... That's shit too. Bus anyone??

Doing some long drives with 4 adult size and a 11 yr old so having a bit more space can only be a good thing :)

Thanks for your response 8)

How long are you in Australia for? Are you planning on seeing more of this great southern land?

Just visiting for 2 1/2 weeks and seeing some friends in Mount Gambier - going to see Kangaroo Island on the way

Flight to Adelaide or Melbourne - not sure which yet, return flight from Melbourne.

We lived in Brisbane for a year or so about 19 years ago, and visited again with the kids about 8 years ago 8)

If a kangaroo jumps out in front, dont brake as the car nose dives and the 'roo will come through the windscreen... ACCELERATE at them!! It lifts the bonnet higher, more chance of the roo going under the car plus has more chance of writing off the car, nobody likes finding roo guts in their windscreen demister vents after you get the car back from the panel beater!

Peter Falconio can attest to that.

Commodore or Falcon should be ok given your requirements maybe a wagon to be on the safe side.

Do you have any definite dates you will be in Melbourne yet?
With a bit of warning, we could organise another Brekky at the Tru Track cafe so you could see some local cars :)
