OK, so here we are in 2022, and my clock/info module has stopped again.
I think I remember reading this (or similar) thread back in 2016 when my '04 B3.0 was intermittent, followed the instructions and it worked.
So clock stopped again, came here to remember how to do it;
De-soldered the top mounts for the screen, gently pried open and re-soldered R4.
This time I took just the circuit board back to the car and plugged it in, got the clock and after a few seconds the rest of the display came online.
Touching the selector pads with a key, I got it to cycle through the pages so all good.
I did however notice that, in the time it was plugged in and running, the back of the board was a little warm to the touch, so I guess this is going to be an ongoing problem...
Note to others; when opening the unit, make sure you have the screen facing downwards, otherwise when it opens, all the pushbutton switches and their little contacts fall out.
For those looking for R4, it's just about under the bottom of the second digit of the 'clock' area of the screen.
And of course in my rush, I forgot to photograph any of this work.
Post script; OK, it didn't work the first time (this time), reassembled and nothing worked, pulled it all apart and plugged in just the board and it only worked if I gave it a bit of a twist so had to open up again and have another re-solder of R4.
This little bugger doesn't have any 'legs', just sit on the board and is soldered on the ends, and I think it solders ok, but as it cools it recracks the solder?
Anyway, got it all done and back together, and I'll just see how long it works...
