Ecutek tune result

Postby suby11 » Sun Mar 09, 2008 8:43 pm

Just had my Ecutk tune done to my 07 GT SpecB and car now has 158kw at wheels, an increase of approx 40kw.

Car is unbelievably responsive now and is so much better to drive.

For an auto it is awesome. No lag down the bottom end and at about 2500 to 3000rpm just knocks you back in your seat.

Sport mode is far better than sport sharp ever was and you could drive around in sport quite comfortably. Always have in sport sharp though.

I mode he had a few problems with and he needs more time with the car but I never drive in I and don't give a shit so dont think I will bother taking it back for that.

For anybody that is thinking about getting it done its the best $1600 you will ever spend. They told me not to bother doing anything with exhaust because won't make any difference. The pod filter I had made an approx 10kw diff before the tune so I recommend the pod filter.

Got it done at Mercury Motorsports at Newmarket Road, Wilston.

Trent is the owner and a John did the tune.

That's pretty good results! Is the pod filter the only mod?

Apparently catback exhaust only gains 1kw. The downpipe is where the gains are at.

I meant a full turbo back system.

Wouldnt be a smart idea to get a dump and have the standard system restrict it?

When I changed my catback exhaust, it felt like a bigger gain that 1kw. Have a look at the standard mufflers compared to aftermarket ones like HiTech or Sti Genome and have a look at how less restrictive they are.

And, a pod gaining 10kw by itself, is all in the brain in my opinion.

The cat back exhaust, Apexi pod and tune on mine yielded about 50kw atw over the base figure.

I think all combined together it works well on the Libs.

Clarence, I'm just abit skeptic about this mate....

Who did you hear this from?

I am about to put a DP in and get it dyno'ed and THEN the full cat back system and dyno'ed again to see the difference, hopefully I'll get more then a 1kw cause that would just be rooted.

Ecutek is just a piece of software.

It sounds like suby11 has a good result, noting that a good result is more than just a peak power figure.

Remember that there's no guarantee that another tuner using the same software will do as good a job.

Taken from MRT PDF, page 7:
MRT wrote:One of the most common modifications we are asked to perform on the
Liberty GT is a replacement exhaust system. We attempted several
combinations of replacement options for the GT (including rear mufflers,
cat back and full turbo back, even with no mufflers as seen to the left!),
however just about every combination tried didn’t really yield any gains
even with further tuning! Extensive dyno testing on the car was proving
this really isn’t the source of restriction preventing further power gains at
this point.

If you did turbo-back, fairly sure you'll get more than 1kW :)

AFAIK, the main restriction is in the downpipe, but once you free that up, then I guess you would be better off doing the full hog :)

In tuned form, I've heard this is the case from two other tuners as well. It also depends on how many other supporting modifications you have to take advantage of the freer flow.

IF you're fitting a pod, the car really should have a retune soon after, as your AFR's would change beyond what the factory tune could compensate for. Retune should net a few more kw's as well from the pod.

f you did turbo-back, fairly sure you'll get more than 1kW Smile

The reasoning behind this is the surface area combined of the two mufflers' inlets say (2 x 2") would be more than the surface area of a single 3" inlet muffler. The internals of the muffler however will be a different story, and something thats a bit of an unknown with the LGT. Re the STI mufflers, I don't think anyones cut one up for the sake of research just yet :) So yeah, power gains with the catbacks will be minimal, and for the cost of 2 high flow mufflers (~$1500). Having said that, I know people on other forums who have said they netted an extra 30-40kw just with replacing the mufflers.. but then again.. it's easy to make a dyno read what the customer wants to hear.
