Do you have any anti-squeal paste between the backing plates and the shims? If not, go buy some - will help a lot.

How are you finding the new brakes compared to your old ones?

And of course the obligatory "pic pics pics!" chant goes here.

are you referring to the front callipers?? and the backing plate of the pad??
im finding these are alot better compared to the stockies lol
but yes i will post up before and after shots tomorrow before i make a trip to syd to pick my new lip up :)

Front and rear - both are capable of making noise through shim vibration. Yes, the shim is the separate metal plate on the back of the pad that goes between the pad and the piston of the caliper.

I have the shim on the front calipers but not the rear, I never got it...

Do the rears have a shim??

Yes, all pads should have shims. Some pads come with their own shims in the box while others expect you to re-use your previous ones.

The rears are not so much of a drama as they don't get anywhere near as hot as the fronts.

That's really weird, all the guys who have used them have had no squealing..including me...Try some copper grease..I know that works..hopefully they stop after they bedding in.

Yeah it is a little weird as it only happens at a specific pressure or at low speeds maybe a combination of both???

So I have copper compound do I put that between the shim on the front pads and between the shim that came with it or behind the shim that came with it and the caliper??

Yeah that is a bit weird...

The grease goes between the back of the pads & the shims... (:

I personally use CRC Disc Brake Quiet. You should be able to get it from most common automotive stores like Super Cheap Auto, etc.

The squealing is the pads vibrating between the rotor and piston/s/caliper/backing plate. The fluid or grease helps by damping that vibration. AFAIK...

That is correct.

Brake Quiet paste won't help for squealing that is occurring between the pad compound and the rotor, though. Most of the time this is caused by excess dust caught there (be it brake dust, or actual dust if you've been driving off-road) - a quick removal of the pads, brush down of the pad and disc contact area then put it back together again will usually eliminate it for a few days/weeks. At that time you'll find yourself starting to shop for less dusty pads. :)

There are multiple types of squeak/squeal so it depends which one you have.

The one to do with the shim on shim or shim on pad contact I call a squeak.
It should be short squeak squeak squeak type sounds that will generally happen over bumps that allow the shims/pads to move a bit and squeak.
Brake grease is to go between the shim & shim or shim and pad.
Or as mentioned you can use disc brake quiet. I also use that and have no problems.

There is also the spring metal parts that hold your pads to the calipers. These can make squeak squeak squeak sounds over bumps also and should have a layer of copper grease to avoid such noises.

If you look at the workshop manuals here viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4686#p185940
It has diagrams of where to put grease.

The above noises should be related to movement from things like bumps and will generally happen at any speeds.

The sound I refer to as squeal is usually a longer squeal type noise instead of short sharp squeak squeak squeaks. This noise is from the brake pad on rotor contact and is related to the brake pad compound (and apparently incorrect bed in procedure can also be a factor). That's why you see on brake pad brochures information about noise. Often high performance brakes can be a bit noisy.
This noise should only happen when you are braking and has nothing to do with bumps.
It usually only happens when you are very lightly applying your brakes, usually at low speed, like when you are stuck in traffic and creeping forwards, or coming to a stop at traffic lights.
It is much less likely at high speeds and you shouldn't get it under normal and hard brake pressure (unless your pads are worn out or you have something stuck between your disc and pads like dirt or rocks).

And how do fix this one in particular??
