So went out for my first track day ever and what an awesome day it was. Huge thanks to Jerome (Rome_sti) for organising the day and to the staff at Maruland driver training centre for hosting us and having the day run as smoothly as possible.

my best recorded run was a 50.017 but I think I got a few faster laps in after the end of the timed laps sessions...
I think I claimed the 'first spin out of the day' title, managed to end up 180 degrees on just my second lap of my second session. thankfully the whole car stayed on the track the whole time so no damage was done to the car, and I was far enough ahead at the time that everyone was able to slow down and avoid what could of been a major incident.

anyhoo... this is what is left of my rear tyres after a very tough day at the office.

It's fair to say they copt a bit of a beating... I managed to JUST make it home I feel... don't know how much longer they would have lasted!

Wow lucky you made it home on those.

Your car looked and sounded great. Shame you didn't have a bit more grip for some faster times.

thanks mate, yeah was a bit of a shame the back tyres had it so early on. I'll definitely pre plan my wheel/tyre situation a bit better for the next track day

Unfortunately this might be the last mod I do for a little while as I am beginning to try and save for a trip to japan at the start of next year.

I went in on the group buy organised by Bosco (Thanks mate!!!!) and got a STI replica lip. I also ordered a aluminium 'STI' embossed badge to put on the lip for extra effect. Along with this, the NSW prestige plates I had ordered came in today so I went to pick them up. Strangely enough though, the prestige plates come with a mounting bracket so that you can do a number plate raiser yourself. This was extremely helpful since I was planning on doing that 'mod' sometime in the near future.

Downside, however, was that the mounting bracket they give you didnt have any pre-cut holes. Now I am doing a arts degree at uni, so my ability to measure and drill holes is limited however I think it came out pretty good despite my severe shortfall in ability.

Image

This is the mounting plate, you can see where I have drilled one hole, and already put a screw in the other to hold it in place

Close up of the prestige plates. They come with the number plate casing from the RTA with a little RTA embossed logo in the bottom right hand corner.
Image

The top part of the number plate hooks onto a lip on the top part of the mounting bracket, and then the flat part of the mounting bracket has 3 screws which press into the bottom of the number plate housing to hold it in place.

Front end looks shit hot Nick! Looks like the lip fit up pretty well. Did you need to heat it up at all?

Cheers mate! Can't thank you enough for organising and mark for helping out with arranging postage.
Nah didn't have to do any heating up. Just the few speed clips and I screwed the other mounting points into the bumper.

Yeah tell me about it. It took them about 20 minutes just to find my plates because they come in a special box which the guy serving me had never seen before haha. But I had to drive home from the RTA with no number plates on because there was no way to mount them until I got home

I called up my local LAC and told them what I was about to do and they have me the okay to drive straight to my house. The constable I spoke to said "if you put the plates in your window you shouldn't have any problems with highway patrol"... I certainly feel I would of had A LOT of issues if HWP saw my car without plates on haha. Oh we'll, worked out okay in the end. Took about half an hour to get all the mounting points lines up and in all up but I think my back plates are slightly lopsided. From a distance it's okay, but up close I think you can tell :(

Can't think of anything else they would prefer than to nab a young bloke in a modified car without plates.. Certainly would have seen some grief I think :(

100%, definitely would not have gone down well I feel.

On another note, I am now also in line for a Kido tune. I've been told approximately 4 - 6 weeks. Very very excited! can't wait to see how the car performs once its tuned. And on a small note, should be putting the car into the lifestyle audio sound off at the end of november in the Sound Quality class. Getting one more amp installed for my centre dash speaker so I can have that tuned for better imaging and then sound system should be basically completed for the comp. Finished third in the concert class last time so hoping for a better result this time around.
